Rock the Cause High School Impacts Inner City Youth!

Rock the Cause volunteer Joe Gamble mentoring students.

2011 was an incredible year for Rock the Cause with over a dozen concert events and volunteer drives.

With the support of a grant from Cities 97 and donations from people like you we launched our Rock the Cause High School program. We exceeded our expectations of what we thought was possible:

  • Rock the Cause partnered with Junior Achievement of the Upper Midwest, educators, nonprofits, and nearly a dozen local area high schools to inspire youth to take action in their community.
  • Rock the Cause CEO Scott Herold reached over 300 students with a workshop on nonprofit career choices and what it means to be a social entrepreneur. Scott was named Junior Achievement Capstone Volunteer of Year.
  • Rock the Cause recruited nearly 70 high school students to volunteer at the Minnesota AIDS Walk.
  • Youth Performance Company benefited from over $5000 raised at Glitter Ball 4 to produce theatrical productions that addressed issues of runaway teens and the effects of bullying in the schools.
  • Youth Advantage received nearly $2500 in support from Rock the Cause to help families who needed a little extra help paying for the costs of putting their child in a sports or arts program.
  • Rock the Cause worked one on one with students at the High School of Recording Arts that resulted in a student organized concert that raised nearly $700 for north Minneapolis Tornado Recovery.
  • Rock the Cause partnered with the SoundTown music festival to recruit over 130 new volunteers for youth mentoring organizations like Free Arts Minnesota and Rock Star Supply Company.

The people at Rock the Cause are truly visionary! Their passion and commitment to humanitarianism is the foundation of Rock the Cause. As an educator, I am excited to share this opportunity to serve humankind with my students. The Rock the Cause dream for bettering the world is contagious. -Colleen Neary Faculty Member Anoka, MN High School

The level of engagement my students had with Rock the Cause was amazing! I have never seen an organization reach young people like Rock the Cause. My students were excited and empowered to make a difference in their community. The life lessons they learned are priceless. Thank you Rock the Cause - Sayra Loftus High School of Recording Arts Saint Paul

Since I met Rock the Cause I got my shine on! I am headed to college! - Charles Gilbert Student HSRA

If working one on one to empower today's youth to make an impact in their community through volunteerism, and leadership is meaningful to you, please consider making a tax-deductible donation to Rock the Cause. The Lifeworks Rock of Ages Band Rocked This Cause!
The Minnesota Remembers Vic Chesnutt benefit concert, hosted by Rock the Cause on November 12 was a huge success! The event was held at the Grain Belt Bottling House in artsy Northeast Minneapolis. The Lifeworks Rock of Ages Band, four musically talented Lifeworks clients and two McNally Smith College of Music students participating in a newly pioneered work/study program, took to the stage in immaculate form.

The band rocked out tunes by Bruce Springsteen, Alabama, The Eagles, Paul Simon, and had the crowd up and dancing with Bill Haley and the Comet's, "Rock Around the Clock." The big show stealer was an ode to hometown legend, Prince, with their cover of, "Raspberry Beret." The band ended their set to an eruption of applause and cheers from the eager audience, making history with the first program of its kind at Lifeworks.
