The Life and Music of Vic Chesnutt
The Life and Music of Vic Chesnutt

Who is Vic Chesnutt ? 89.3 The Current & Rock the Cause Explain!

For 20 years, Vic Chesnutt was one of the staples of independent music.vic wheel
Discovered by R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe, in 1991, Chesnutt went on to make 17 records. He wrote, recorded, and performed with the likes of Smashing Pumpkins, R.E.M, Lamb Chop, Wide Spread Panic, Nancy Griffith, Soul Asylum and more! Vic hung out with Hollywood types like Billy Bob Thornton, and even landed a role in "Sling Blade."

Vic accomplished all of this, and more, as a paraplegic, with limited mobility. He could play simple guitar, and wrote some of the most stirring and heartfelt music of our time!

Dave Campbell invited Scott Herold, founder and CEO of Rock the Cause - the Twin Cities' very own rock 'n' roll philanthropist - to be his guest on The Local Show.

We dug deep into the latest Rock the Cause endeavor - a compilation called Minnesota Remembers Vic Chesnutt, and also spun tracks from contributors like Dan Wilson, Haley Bonar, and Charlie Parr.

We invite you to listen to this inspiring, flag-waving interview about music and community action. Learn why Vic Chesnutt is one of the great songwriters of our time and why Minnesota Remembers Vic Chesnutt is being called one of the best local releases of 2011.

Dan Wilson MP3 "Soft Picasso"

One of the Minnesota Remembers Vic Chesnutt compilation highlights, "Soft Picasso," is performed by Minnesota native and Grammy Award winning singer songwriter and producer, Dan Wilson. Dan is best known for his work with his band Semisonic and for his collaborations with artists including Adele, The Dixie Chicks, Weezer, Mike Doughty and others.  On Vic Chesnutt and "Soft Picasso": "I first learned about Vic Chesnutt from a friend of mine, a rabid fan.  My knowledge of VC's music was limited to hearing 'West of Rome' at various parties in the early nineties.  But my friend patiently indoctrinated me into a broader awareness of his brilliance.  I chose to record 'Soft Picasso' because that same friend told me that it would suit my voice best, and he was right.  I knew I couldn't match the world-weary cynicism of VC's version so I decided to go all the way in the other direction, in my direction.  It's such a funny song; I hope I've done it justice." - Dan Wilson

Phantasmagoria 2 Images!

A kaleidoscope of Ghouls, Vixens, Monsters, and Celebrities made Phantasmagoria 2 one of the top Halloween parties in town. Even Battle Cat made an appearance!

Apollo Cobra  is truly one of the best live bands in the region. A rabid following of fans packed the dance floor for AC's funky techno pop grooves.  Young Lust proves one again to be one of the best dance parties around!

Most important we raised nearly $5000 in operating support for Rock the Cause. Thank you to all the fans and volunteers for making our event a ghostly success!

Props to Schell's Brewing and Saint Croix Vineyards for their generosity!
