Save the Date! The Skagit County Historical Museum in La Conner |
Award-winning Pacific Northwest artists will be featured at "A Gathering of Native Artists 2011". Featured performance at 2 PM by Swil Kanim, Lummi tribal member and violin virtuoso and story teller. Artists will show and sell a variety of Native and Native inspired art on Saturday, January 22, from Noon to 4 pm at Skagit County Historical Museum in La Conner.
Participating in this popular annual event are noted artists Sharon Akers (Omaha), Leslie Eastwood (Samish), Fran James (Lummi), Bill James (Lummi), Michelle Jefferson (Lummi), Kevin Paul (Swinomish), Mary Snowden & Robert Eagle Bear (Lummi), Lisa Telford (Haida), Maxine Stremler (Lummi) and Michelle Jefferson (Lummi). Visitors are invited to gather around, watch and learn as the artists carve, weave, make baskets or hats, knit and create. Visitors can also participate in a silent auction of the artists' works.

Opening Today! La Conner Quilt & Textile Museum New Exhibit!
Marjorie Bachert & Sandra L Little on the 2nd floor and Maura Donegan & Lisa M Harkins on the 3rd floor. Their work includes embroidery elements and embraces contemporary mixed media with both 2-D & 3-D elements. All four are graduate students of Gail Harker Creative Studies.

The first floor of the Gaches Mansion will be covered with Crazy Quilts and Other Embroidered Fancies. The Crazy Quilt fad ran wild from about 1880 through the late 1920. The earlier quilts are often made of silk fabrics and are highly embellished with a wide variety of embroidery stitches. For details call 360-466-4288
