Where's Your Toque Eh?

The toque is uniquely Canadian. The town of La Tuque in Quebec is aptly named after a hill that looks like a toque. In the climate we live in, who doesn't own some variation of this piece of Canadiana?

But toques have evolved into something more than just functional winter head gear. The toque has turned up all over the world as a staple of pop culture. Musicians, actors, and professional athletes all don the Canadian cap. Jacques Plante, the famous Montreal Canadian's goalie, regularly wore one during the '50s. Goofballs Bob and Doug Mackenzie may have started the Hollywood trend back in their SCTV days but today you can find toque-wearing stars on stage, the big screen, and even on South Park. A red toque became a symbol of French-Canadian nationalism during the Patriotes Rebellions in 1837. Facebook and Twitter have pages dedicated to toques. So what does this mean for you?

Toques are an excellent branding opportunity. They are universally worn and have embedded themselves as fashionable and stylish. Toques are not just for the slopes anymore (although snowboarding and extreme skiing really do help in the popularity of the headwear). With so many designs and styles, there is a toque for every occasion. The only question you need to ask is "Which one is for you?"
