Our New Bishop
On September 22, at 10:30 in the morning, Reveille will have the honor of hosting a service celebrating the arrival o f our new bishop, Young Jin Cho. Bishop Cho has a remarkable personal story. He was born in South Korea and graduated from the Methodist Seminary in Seoul. He came to the U.S. in 1979 to study at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C., where he earned both a master of divinity degree and a doctor of ministry degree.
Bishop Cho was senior pastor of Korean United Methodist Church of Greater Washington for 22 years. During this time worship attendance grew form about 100 to more than 1000, 276 adults and youths were baptized, and three building projects were completed. More recently, Bishop Cho served as Superintendent of the Arlington District.
Bishop Cho brings a deep faith and a strong commitment to prayer to the episcopal office. Bishop Cho has said, "I want to be a praying Bishop. I want to spread a culture of prayer to clergy and laity. I strongly believe that if we rediscover our praying knees, if we humbly rely on our Lord, the UMC will be changed. We will become more faithful and fruitful. But most of all, I think this is the way that scripture teaches us."

Don't Miss This!
September 23
This year, Reveille Day will be particularly exciting because this is the day we will consecrate our wonderful new addition. As usual we will have a combined service at 10:30 am in the sanctuary. Music will be provided by CrossPoint, the Chancel Choir and the Youth Choir. This worship service will be followed by a catered lunch on the grounds, and while there will be no charge for the meal, donations will be gratefully accepted. There will be fun and food for all ages, so dress casually and be a part of this special day in the life of our church.

A Hand Up, Not a Handout
by Ellie Manspile, 11th grade
On August 5th, the senior high youth traveled to the Eastern Shore of Virginia to work with an organization called Habitat for Humanity. Habitat is dedicated to providing houses to families in need, yet financially able to maintain a mortgage payment. The houses are built purely with volunteer labor from groups and churches like ours, and their mortgage covers only the cost of materials.
When Reveille showed up to the work site on Monday morning, our assigned house already had the frame and most of the dry wall in place. Our job was to finish mudding and to dry-wall the bathroom. We quickly learned how tedious and time-consuming mudding can be, because you apply a coat of joint compound, wait for it to dry, sand it, and repeat the process day after day. However, this did not detract from the rewarding experience of witnessing a house as it became a home. Work site leaders Greg, Lindsey, and Walter knew how to make every job fun and exciting. We were even able to paint the inside at the end of the week.
During our stay in the Eastern Shore, Habitat opened a home improvement thrift store named ReStore. Throughout the week, some of us set up and organized the store, which was a blast! A few even got to participate in the opening day celebration. A few members of our team even worked on a second Habitat home, installing door locks and a few final details.
Everyone was reminded of the meaning of the trip on Thursday evening when Franktown UMC hosted a dinner with the family planning to move in. Meeting the families reinforced how fortunate we all are and the true satisfaction one gets from volunteer work.

Help Feed the Homeless
Bag Lunches
On Sunday, September 23, 160 bag lunches will be prepared during the Sunday school hour for Friends of the Homeless to distribute to hungry Richmonders. Each lunch contains a sandwich, boxed drink, package of chips, individually-packaged fruit and a dessert. This ministry is sponsored by our third, fourth and fifth graders and their families, who provide the food. Contributions of lunch foods are always welcome, as are oversized brown lunch bags and plastic sandwich bags. If you would like to contribute please contact Carol Uzzle, Minister for Teaching and Learning, here or by phone at 359-6041, ext. 117 to learn what is needed this month.
In October the lunch preparation will take place during the coffee hour in the welcome center. Folks of all ages are invited to help on October 21.
HOT MEAL
On Thursday, September 27, Reveille members will be blessed to be able to serve a hot meal of roasted chicken, cheesy potato casserole, green beans and dessert to some of Richmond's homeless population. There are several ways in which you can help:
- You can help by providing one of the casseroles. The recipe, with drop-off instructions, can be picked up from the sign-up board near the elevators on the red carpet or in the fellowship hall.
- You can also help by being one of the servers at Greater Mt. Moriah Baptist Church for an hour or two. You can meet us at Reveille at 11:00 am and carpool or meet us at the site. If needed, child care is available while serving the meal, please email Carol Uzzle or call 359-6041, ext. 117.
- You may also provide gallon-size plastic bag, plastic Tupperware-like containers (used containers are fine) and 55-gallon trash bags. If you would like to donate any of these items, please bring them to the collection area by the elevators (on the red carpet).
- For more information, please contact Kay Craven or call the church office, 359-6041, ext. 111.

Using the Friendship Pad
to Make a Wonderful Wednesday Dinner Reservation
A simple way to register for our weekly Wonderful Wednesday dinner is to mark the friendship pad on Sunday while you are attending a worship service. At the bottom of both the MEMBER sign-in sheets (white) and VISITOR sign-in sheets (yellow) you will see the following:
□ I/We will attend Wonderful Wednesday Supper.
# of adults_______________
# of children age 4-12 _____
All you have to do is place a check mark or an X in the box and then fill in the number of adults (any one age 13 or above), and the number of children ages 4-12 on the appropriate lines. You need not give us the number of children under 4 because there is no charge for them.
You are welcome, also, to phone in your reservation by calling 359-6041 no later than 3:00 p.m. on the Monday before the dinner.

Friendship Pads:
Your Help is Requested
Each Sunday, all who attend worship at any of our three services are asked to fill out a page in the friendship pad. Attendance is entered into our database, and changes and notes recorded on your sheet are forwarded to the appropriate person. It would be very helpful if you could do a few things to help us expedite the processing and use of this information:
- Please print.
- If you have children and you let one of them fill out the sheet for you, please check behind him/her to make sure that the writing is legible.
- Whether an adult or child fills out the form, please be sure that your last name is on the sheet. While most staff members know your last name just by seeing the first names of your family members, the volunteers who input attendance into the database may not.
- If you put your last name first, please insert a comma before you include the first name or names.
- Please list the first name of all persons attending and not just your last name.
Your help with this will be much appreciated.
