Welcome Lori Epps
Our New Director of Children's Ministries
Lori Epps joined Reveille as Director of Children's Ministries on October 1. Lori brings her passion for working with children and some 19 years' experience in various ministries serving children, youth and adults. She comes to us from New Life United Methodist Church in Midlothian where she served as Director of Youth Ministries from October 2007 to 2011, and then transitioned into a newly-created position of Connections Director, working with all age levels overseeing missions and evangelism. Lori has also served at Mt. Pisgah and St. Marks United Methodist Churches in the Richmond area. She has worked as a lead preschool teacher and in the Chesterfield County Youth Planning and Development Office. She has participated in and led many local, national and international mission experiences, including trips to Chile and Costa Rica.
Lori grew up in Chesterfield where she graduated from the old Manchester High School. She double majored in Religious Studies and Sociology while at Virginia Wesleyan, a United Methodist college located in the Tidewater area. She married her high school sweetheart, Brent, in September of 1995. They have two beautiful and talented girls, Hannah Faith, who is in eighth grade, and Hailey Joy, who is in fifth grade. Lori enjoys playing tennis, scrapbooking, and watching anything on HGTV in her spare time. Lori is excited about working with and getting to know the children and families at Reveille and helping to make disciples for Jesus Christ. Please welcome Lori and her family to Reveille.
In our next issue, look for information about Jennifer McCluskey, our new Director of Adult Ministries.

Building on Our Blessings
2013 Stewardship Campaign
Over the next several weeks, the stewardship pledge campaign to fund our church's 2013 operating budget will be taking place, culminating with pledge cards being brought to the altar during Consecration Sunday on October 28. A pledge is a written financial commitment one makes for the upcoming year to support the ministries of the church. Such a commitment is made after prayerful discernment.
2012 marks a milestone year in the life of Reveille. We opened the doors on our welcome center, chapel and youth space. We increased our music ministry space. And we're already starting to put this extra room to good use through our worship, discipleship, and service ministries.
As we move into 2013 we have the opportunity to build on the momentum from this past year, and in that spirit our 2013 stewardship pledge campaign theme is "Building on our Blessings."
Our hopes for 2013 are ambitious. We want to not only continue our transforming ministries but increase our commitments to our growing congregation, our community, and our world. Your pledge will be an important part of making that happen. The main source of funding for the operating budget comes from pledged giving, and having your pledge upfront allows our church staff and committees to develop 2013 plans and budgets more accurately and responsibly.
During the month of October you will learn more about Reveille's ministry efforts, our hopes for 2013 and beyond, and the financial support needed to start fulfilling those hopes. Look for that in The Reveille Window, worship bulletins, ministry moment speakers during worship services on October 14 and 21 and in group presentations. Watch for information in the mail about filling out your pledge cards to be brought to the altar during worship on Consecration Sunday, October 28.
We hope this information will be helpful as you prayerfully consider your pledge, and how that pledge can help Reveille build on our blessings in service to others.

The Ultimate Opportunity:
Have Fun, Make a Difference
Five hours, four Reveille teams, one cause: Please come to Collegiate School's main campus this Sunday, October 7, at 1:00 pm to support the 43 youth from Reveille who are competing in Welborne United Methodist Church's Eighth Annual Ultimate Frisbee Tournament. Reveille is sponsoring three high school teams and one middle school team.
The tournament begins with worship and moves into round-robin competition, in which each team plays every other team. Teams are divided between high school and middle school leagues. After the round-robin games, teams are seeded for a single-elimination tournament. With four teams in action, Reveille will have someone on the field all afternoon.
The action of the game is enough to draw a crowd, but the cause is more meaningful. All proceeds from the tournament support the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Reveille's team contribution will exceed $1,000 this year.
Our youth enjoy ultimate Frisbee, but more importantly, they enjoy making a difference in the lives of those in need. This Sunday, they can do both at the same time!

Your Discipleship Impacts Our Youth
Several years ago, Reveille published a resource pack for children and their families, demarcating "milestones," the goals for each grade of children's Sunday school. The children's milestones include Biblical knowledge, hymns, worship and other practices. In summer 2012 Reveille produced a similar booklet for families of youth. The youths' milestones vary a bit because they are aimed not simply at Sunday school teachers, but at families and even the entire church. For the next few weeks we will highlight some of the milestones for the congregation, lifting up ways the entire congregation can support and nurture discipleship in our youth.
Do you lead a "God-bearing life"? The early church described Mary as theotokos, "God-bearer," as she bore the Christ child. In their book, The Godbearing Life, Ron Foster and Kenda Creasy Dean challenge all Christians to be God-bearers. Often we convince ourselves that Christians are challenged to be Christ's presence in the world. Yet Christ is already active and present in the world. Our role is to bear the love of Christ to the world and to our youth. As Foster and Dean put it, "Godbearers convey God's affirmation and invitation to youth so that they become Godbearers [too], carrying Christ into the culture that adolescents inhale daily. The moment we say 'yes' to God, we become bearers of God's word ... the Holy Spirit enters us, fills us, takes us over, changes everything about us, and through us, [changes] the world in which we live."
How can you nurture discipleship in our youth? Allow God to work through you. Allow your relationship with Christ to inspire you to develop God-filled relationships with the teens in our congregation. Thus the first task of nurturing the faith of our youth is to nurture our own faith.

Arts and Music Program on October 14

The program will begin immediately following the 8:30 am service. It will include varied music as well as a presentation about the artistry of Reveille's needlepoint works. The needlepoint has been a labor of love from many of our Reveille family and will be presented in detailed photographs in addition to the stories they have to tell.
