One Need at a Time
A lonely widow sits in her small mobile home outside Romney, West Virginia. Her children moved away long ago. Other than her regular doctor visits she rarely leaves the house. She spends her days admiring her vast collection of angels, with angel wind chimes and statuettes in every room. The steps of her home were shaky, her roof in need of sealing before it started to leak. By the end of the week, she had a firm new ramp to ease her exit and a well-sealed roof to guard against the rain. This is what Jeremiah Project teams do, day after day, week after week in the summer.
This week, July 22-28, Reveille sends 22 youth and adults to Romney to serve in just that way. They build, they paint, and they talk with the homeowners, many of whom see few visitors otherwise. It is ministry in every sense. Please keep our team in your prayers this week: Cathy Armistead, Kelly Baxter, Caroline Bell, Molly Black, Helen Boyd, Katie Cantone, Tom Cantone, Anna Lyle Collett, Jamie Craven, Kay Craven, Emma Farmer, Jackson Fuller, Abigail Killius, Cara Klich, Larus Reed, Robertson Reed, Lori Salmon, Matt Salmon, Claire Schweiker, Brant Smith, Rachel Smith, and Walker Speer.

Summer Book Review with David Holmes
David L. Holmes is returning to the Reveille Summer Book Review series on Wednesday, July 25, to speak about his latest book, The Faiths of the Post War Presidents from Truman to Obama. This book is a look at our recent presidents and their religious beliefs.
In 2011, Mr. Holmes retired from his position as the Walter G. Mason Professor of Religious Studies at the College of William and Mary, and per his biography, he will be missed for his sharp wit, intellectual vitality, and commitment to the personal growth of his students. We are looking forward to a lively and enlightening review on the 25th. Refreshments will be served at 10:30 a.m., and the book review will begin at 11:00. Child care will be provided.

Help Feed the Homeless
BAG LUNCHES - SUNDAY, JULY 23
The monthly bag lunches will be prepared by our elementary children during Sunday school this Sunday in room 200. If you would like to contribute food, please contact Carol Uzzle here or at 359-6041, ext. 117.
Hot Meal - THURSDAY, JULY 26
Please sign up to prepare a potato casserole or help serve our monthly hot meal for Friends of the Homeless. As one of Reveille's ongoing outreach ministries, this is a wonderful opportunity to serve the needy in our area. We need 12 volunteers to each make a casserole. Six servers are also needed from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Greater Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. Sign-up sheets, along with the casserole recipe, are located near the staircase in the education building and in the fellowship hall.

Will You Help Brighten Someone's Day?
Perhaps you are looking for a way to serve your church family but are not yet ready to make a big commitment. Please consider being a day brightener to a member who is hospitalized or who lives in a retirement facility. This does not involve visitation, unless you so choose. You are asked only to transport the altar flowers from a worship service to a hospital or facility such as The Hermitage or Westminster-Canterbury. Our Flower Delivery Volunteers are a team of people who are scheduled to serve approximately every 5 to 8 weeks, depending on how many volunteers we have. Currently, we can use at least two more individuals or families to help with this. For more information or to volunteer, please contact Cheryl Arrington here or at 359-6041, ext. 114.

Opportunities to Grow in the Faith this Fall
At Reveille we seek to help persons of all ages deepen their relationship with God and grow in the faith. Throughout the year we offer a variety of Bible studies and other small groups where participants study the Bible and share their faith. Plans are currently underway for the Bible studies below that will begin this fall. Check The Reveille Window and the church website (http://reveilleumc.org) in the upcoming weeks for additional details and to register.
Disciple 1 is an introduction to the major themes of the Bible. This 34-week course has the goal of making disciples through Bible study and is the foundation for all Disciple Bible Studies. The study is not only informational but, more importantly, transformational.
Christian Believer is a 30-week course that recognizes we often recite our creeds without understanding everything we are professing. Participants will examine the doctrines of the Christian faith, exploring creation, downfall, evil, forgiveness, repentance and resurrection.
Immersion Bible Study uses the new Common English Bible as the biblical reference. This is a short-term study lasting no more than eight weeks. Be watching for additional details concerning the book of the Bible that will be studied.
Alpha is a 10-week introduction to the Christian faith which will begin September 11. There will be an introductory dinner on Wednesday, August 29.
Journey 101 classes are offered throughout the year. Loving God, Knowing God and Serving God are three six-week classes centered on the 15 core values of a growing Christian.
Worship is a seven-week course that will explore the basic principles of worship, no matter what the style. The class will be using The Worship Architect: A Blueprint for Designing Culturally Relevant and Biblically Faithful Services, by Constance M. Cherry. Class will meet Sunday evenings starting September 16.
The Women of Spirit Class meets during the week in the morning. They welcome you to join them as they explore Phillip Yancey's book entitled Prayer.
Participants are expected to read the assigned Bible readings and come prepared to participate in class discussions. There will be a cost for each of the study resources.
Remember to check The Window for additional details and perhaps other offerings.
Many of these classes will be offered on Sunday evening, when children and youth are engaged in choir and youth activities. Child care for younger children will be available.
We hope you will be in prayer concerning your participation in Bible study this fall.
If you have questions, please contact Rev. Carol Uzzle, Minister for Teaching and Learning, here or at 359-6041, ext. 117.

Holy Land Experience Opportunity in 2013
Come Join Us
Having been blessed by several experiences in the Holy Land, I am pleased to invite you to join me in Israel in February 2013. Working with the staff of Educational Opportunities, I have been able to customize what I believe will be an extraordinary learning experience. In particular, I am pleased to say that our guide will be the Rev. Dr. Steve Rettenmeyer, a colleague with deep knowledge of both the land and the Bible.
This would be wonderful enough, but I believe that this trip will be much more. As we walk in the footsteps of Jesus and explore the land in which he called and challenged his disciples, the Bible will come alive as never before. This will be an opportunity for spiritual renewal that will, in some cases, change lives. I encourage you to give prayerful consideration to joining me and the Rev. Laughton Corr, who has a wealth of experience in Israel, on this journey of a lifetime. Brochures about this trip are available in the narthex, welcome center and by request from the church office. For further information, please see Rev. Corr at church or call me at 359-6041, ext. 112.
In Christ,
Jim Noland, D. Min.

Good Plays Not Enough for a Win
The Reveille Softball Team took the field against Trinity UMC on July 10, and for the first time all season, we had an abundance of players, including new associate pastor, Katie Anthony. It hadn't taken long for the members of the team to discover that Katie had played before and to recruit her to join in the fun. Unfortunately, Trinity won both games, 9-6 and 8-6, but Reveille put up quite an effort. Katie scored two runs and showed off her fielding expertise in left center field. Dave Craven pitched both games, and Boyd Bullock, Patsy Buelow, Stephen Coleman, and Irvin Davis pulled off three double plays. Boyd and Patsy each scored three runs. Britt Nelson proved that power hitting isn't always needed by getting some short spinning hits that got her on base, advanced some runners, and even batted in a run.
Come out to see the team play at 6:30 p.m. this Tuesday, July 24, at Moody Middle School, located on Woodman Road.
