Welcome Our New Associate Pastor, Rev. Katie B. Anthony
at a reception in her honor
in the Welcome Center
Sunday, July 8,
following the 11:00 a.m. worship service
Reverend Katie B. Anthony will join Reveille as Associate Pastor on July 1. Katie was officially appointed by Bishop Charlene P. Kammerer at the annual meeting of the Virginia Annual Conference in June.
Katie is a recent graduate of Duke Divinity School and a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church (UMC). During her three years at Duke Divinity she served as the student associate pastor at Asbury UMC in Durham, where she preached, led worship and Sunday school, developed and led church-wide programs on outreach and congregational care and helped develop a new website and newsletter. She also served as a summer associate at Spring Hill UMC in Mamers, North Carolina and as a hospital chaplain with Duke University Hospital in their clinical pastoral education program.
Katie was born and raised in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma where she attended Crown Heights UMC. She was an undergraduate at Duke University where she majored in public policy and political science. After college, she moved to Arlington, Virginia and worked as a communications consultant for four years in the Washington, D.C. area. While in Arlington she became an active member of Mt. Olivet UMC and served in a variety of ministries, including United Methodist Women, church council, stewardship, the Mt. Olivet Foundation, community outreach, Disciple Bible Studies, the church softball team and teaching fifth-grade Sunday school. While worshipping at Mt. Olivet she felt a call to ordained ministry and began seminary at Duke Divinity School in the fall of 2009. She graduated with a Master of Divinity in May and was commissioned as a provisional elder in the Virginia United Methodist Conference on June 23.
Katie loves to travel, be outdoors, play sports, and share good food with friends. She is excited to meet the Reveille community. Please feel welcome to schedule a time to introduce yourself, as Katie suggests, over a cup of coffee or preferably a walk!

Youth Choir Tour 2012: The Outer Banks
Thirty-one members of the youth choir are preparing to take Reveille's music ministry on the road. The choir will travel to the Outer Banks of North Carolina July 13 - 15, singing for the Spring Arbor Retirement Community in Kitty Hawk and for the worship service at Outer Banks Presbyterian Church, also in Kitty Hawk. The trip will begin with a visit to the aquarium in Manteo, North Carolina on Saturday morning to learn about Galapagos sea turtle rehabilitation from some of the people who work with them. A tour of the facility will allow the group to get "up close and personal" with these ancient sea creatures.
Come to the OBX (Outer Banks) choir tour concert on Wednesday, July 11, at 7:00 p.m. This will be the first concert held in our new chapel. Bring family and friends: let's pack the place! Join us in the welcome center for ice cream following the performance.

Youth Mission Marathon
Before the runners hear the starting gun at the London Olympics, Reveille's youth will be on the run this summer with four mission teams scheduled. As many as 90 different youth and adults from Reveille will serve from Romney, West Virginia to Usulután, El Salvador.

Our middle school youth will participate in the Jeremiah Project, a middle-school home-repair ministry. The first team of 25 will spend a week in Winchester, Virginia July 15-21, painting homes and building wheelchair ramps for the elderly, disabled and needy. A second 22-member Jeremiah Project team will leave on July 22 for Romney, West Virginia, where they too will serve those in need.
Reveille's second international youth mission trip departs on July 21. Ten youth and four adults will serve in Usulután, El Salvador, building homes for the working poor through Habitat for Humanity's Global Village program. On the first trip to Usulután in 2009, our youth built two homes in one week!
Finally, August 5-11, at least 24 youth and 6 adults will travel to the Eastern Shore of Virginia to work on a home with Habitat for Humanity. On past trips our youth have done everything from pouring a concrete foundation to dry walling and painting. In addition to work on the home, the Eastern Shore is opening its first Habitat Re-Store, which our youth will help set up.
Whether hammering nails or mortaring cinderblocks, our youth will be on the move and in service to Christ this summer.

Holy Land Experience Opportunity in 2013
Come Join Us
Having been blessed by several experiences in the Holy Land, I am pleased to invite you to join me in Israel in February 2013. Working with the staff of Educational Opportunities, I have been able to customize what I believe will be an extraordinary learning experience. In particular, I am pleased to say that our guide will be the Rev. Dr. Steve Rettenmeyer, a colleague with deep knowledge of both the land and the Bible.
This would be wonderful enough, but I believe that this trip will be much more. As we walk in the footsteps of Jesus and explore the land in which he called and challenged his disciples, the Bible will come alive as never before. This will be an opportunity for spiritual renewal that will, in some cases, change lives. I encourage you to give prayerful consideration to joining me and the Rev. Laughton Corr, who has a wealth of experience in Israel, on this journey of a lifetime. Brochures about this trip are available in the narthex, welcome center and by request from the church office. For further information, please see Rev. Corr at church or call me at 359-6041, ext. 112.
In Christ,
Jim Noland, D. Min.

Reveille Co-ed Softball Team
Rebounds from Opening Losses
The Reveille softball team got off to a rough start on June 12. The first game went down as a loss by forfeit due to having too few players. Luckily, a few phone calls found an available player who could make it to the field in time for the second game. Unfortunately, despite some nifty fielding at second base by Emma Bruny, Reveille still lost to the team from Jonas Marketing, 8-4.
On June 19, the Reveille team played with 9 players instead of the standard 10. However, the 5 women and 4 men provided plenty of firepower and fireworks to record a 6-1 victory over the Inside Baseball team. In the second game, Steve Knockemus joined the team and immediately made an impact with some timely fielding to save four runs. Still, Reveille fell behind early 2-0 but rallied for 6-3 victory to complete the sweep of Inside Baseball. There were plenty of highlights by several players. Dave Craven pitched both games, consistently had lined drive hits and scored 4 runs on the night. Patsy Buelow's speed on the base path allowed her to score four runs as well. Along with Craven, Irvin Davis and Gerald Bullock were outstanding at the plate. Britt Nelson who had a two run single and Anne-Marie Himmel who covered lots of territory in right field, contributed in their first outing on the team. It was a great night at the softball field for Reveille as they evened their record at 2-2.
There are no games on July 3 but come out to Moody Middle School on Woodman Road on July 10 at 6:30 p.m. to cheer on the Reveille team in a battle against those other United Methodists from Trinity.
