Annual Conference 2012

Since the days of John Wesley Methodists have gathered to pray, worship, and plan. This year the tradition will continue when the Virginia Annual Conference meets in Roanoke on June 22-24. This theme for this year's Conference is

Annual Conference 2012 logo

Reveille sends six persons to the Annual Conference: Our three Virginia Conference clergy - Jim Noland, Stephen Coleman, and Carol Uzzle (Abby Kocher is a member of the Western North Carolina Conference); and three lay members - Ruby Corr, Dick Davis and Margaret Hamilton.

Please keep these persons and the Annual Conference in your prayers.

Reveille Helps Locally and Globally

When our clergy and lay members go to Roanoke for the meeting of the Annual Conference on June 22, they will take Reveille's contribution to the Annual Conference Mission Offering. This offering will support four projects: a shade and fresh water ministry in Brazil, leadership development for our Church's work in Mozambique, church planting in Cambodia, and Shalom Farms here on the Richmond District. Visit the Virginia Conference website here for additional information.

We will continue to receive gifts for this offering through Sunday, June 17. Please be sure to mark your donation "Annual Conference Offering."

Jacob Thompson is Away for Treatment

Jacob Thompson, the second grade son of Keith and Susan Thompson, is a patient at the University of Minnesota Amplatz Children's Hospital for a bone marrow transplant. They will be in Minneapolis into the fall. Please keep them and the entire Thompson family in your prayers.

If you would like to send Jacob and Susan a card at the Ronald McDonald House, the mailing address follows:

                                              Jacob Thompson

                                              621 Oak Street SE

                                              Minneapolis MN 55414

A Caring Bridge website has been established. Susan is journaling their time away and there is also the ability to send words of encouragement to them. To access this site, go to caringbridge.org  and enter jacobsthompson. Be sure to include Jacob's middle initial since there is another Jacob Thompson with a Caring Bridge site.

Nothing can replace having Jacob and Susan with us. As Susan writes and others respond, she shares her faith and conviction that God journeys with them.

Music and Worship Arts Week at Lake Junaluska

On June 24, Reveille will send 14 youth and 3 adults to Lake Junaluska, North Carolina for a week of singing, worship, seminars and concerts. This week is greatly anticipated Choir Trip - buseach year, and one of the best things is the privilege to connect with old friends and meet new ones. Music and Worship Arts Week attracts children, youth and adults from all over the country. We have met people who traveled from California, Michigan, Arkansas and Texas, as well as the entire eastern seaboard. One of the highlights this year is that Mark Miller will direct the Senior High Youth Choir. We are quite excited to work with Mark again!

Reveille participants include Molly Black, David Bogaev, Emily Bogaev, Helen Boyd, Katie Cantone, Harvey Creasey, Cara Klich, Caroline Lea, Danielle Lewis, Ellie Manspile, Daniel Pinson, Claire Schweiker, Richard Schweiker, Rachel Smith, Cathy Armistead, Glenda Lewis and Dwayne Stinson. Please pray for safe travel and that we will return with inspiration to share with all.

Author to Kick Off Summer Book Review Series

June 27

Fellowship Hall

Mercy Creek photoIt's hard to believe, but summer is just around the corner and so is the 48th year of Reveille's summer book review series. On June 27, Matt Matthews is coming to speak on his first novel Mercy Creek.

Matt was born near Hampton, Virginia, attended Virginia Commonwealth University and Union Seminary in Richmond, and is now pastor/head of staff at St. Giles Presbyterian Church in Greenville, South Carolina.

Mercy Creek is set on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. It is the story of 16-year-old Isaac's coming-of-age summer in a small town. Mercy Creek won the South Carolina Arts Commission First Novel Prize in 2011 and received rave reviews.

We will have refreshments at 10:30 a.m., and the book review by Matt begins at 11:00 a.m. Child care will be provided. There will be books available for sale and for signing. We hope to see you there!

Help Feed the Homeless a Hot Meal

Friends of the Homeless 60%June 28 marks the day we prepare our hot meal for Friends of the Homeless. Their need is growing. The number of people we serve has increased over the last couple of months and it will jump again this month with the school children out of school for the summer. We need your help more than ever. If you can make a potato casserole, a homemade dessert, or come and help us serve that day, please sign up on the Friends of the Homeless board in the main hallway or in the fellowship hall. Contact Carol Uzzle at 359-6041, ext. 117 to arrange for child care. If you would like more information, please contact Joanna Tilley here
