 TopReception for Rev. Abby Kocher

Sunday, June 17

Join us in expressing appreciation to Associate Pastor Abby Kocher and her husband, Craig, at a reception in their honor, Sunday, June 17, in the fellowship hall, immediately following the 11:00 a.m. worship service. As previously announced, Abby and Farewell Reception 2Craig are expecting their first baby in August. Abby will take family leave July 1 and will not have a church appointment for the coming year. Abby's last Sunday with us is June 17, and she will be preaching at The Point.

We plan to present Abby with a gift at the reception. If you would like to contribute, please provide a check payable to Reveille UMC by Sunday, June 10, and note "Kocher gift." In addition, there will be a memory box in the fellowship hall where you can place a card or personal note. Thank you for your support.

Abby has been a blessing to Reveille, serving with love, grace, and devotion. We have grown spiritually through her service, and we are thankful for what she has given us, our families, our church, and our community. We pray God's blessings upon her and her family as she continues to answer God's call to serve Him and His purpose.

Many Thanks for a Wonderful Day

Sunday, March 20, 2012 was an important day in the life of Reveille Church. We enjoyed uplifting worship, confirmed 21 young persons as professing members in our United Methodist Church, baptized one young person, celebrated our new addition with the laying of a cornerstone, and topped off the evening with an inspiring Mission Benefit Concert presented by the combined choirs of Reveille and Shady Grove (Mechanicsville) UMC. All in all, it was quite a day.

There are many people to thank, including the hardest working building committee in the known world, with special thanks going to its tireless leaders, Jim Overacre and Mark Bell. We should also highlight Dwayne Stinson's wonderful work, along with the mentors, with our confirmation class, and Cathy Armistead's leadership of our music ministry. Sunday night she directed two bell choirs, conducted the combined choirs and played the organ for Rutter's Requiem. All that after leading music in two worship services.

The day also included three receptions, two of which were held in our new welcome center. There are many people to thank for these, but special recognition goes to the Wednesday morning Bible study group known as Women of Spirit. Led by Bonnie Overacre and Margret Hamilton, they decorated the new space and provided what was effectively a lunch for several hundred people.

I may have left out some names that should be recognized because almost everyone contributed in some way. It takes a congregation to make a church. So thanks go to all of you for your commitment to our vision of expanding our facility to the greater glory of Christ's mission here at Reveille.

Abundant Donations Will Bless Many

Thank you to everyone who donated their time and belongings to the fabulously successful Fill-A-POD Drive for CARITAS and other charities! The POD had to be emptied three times over the week, with overflow going into the toddler classroom and the picnic shelter.

Our abundance was so overwhelming that we were able to serve agencies beyond our original intentions and are already working on expanding next year's drive to be able to include more types of donations by forging more partnerships, including the Richmond Department of Social Services and the Health Department.

CARITAS, Richmond Healthy Start, Anna Black, Jennifer McCluskey, the Elizabeth Project, ACTS, Goodwill, The View, Foster Care Services, Swansboro Elementary, and the City of Richmond thank you for your generous support.

Annual Conference Offering 2012

One of the highlights of Annual Conference is the Conference Mission Offering. This year the goal is $200,000 to be divided among four projects: a shade and fresh water ministry in Brazil, leadership development for our Church's work in Mozambique, church planting in Cambodia, and support for the ministry of Shalom Farms right here on the Richmond District. Please visit the Virginia Conference website here for additional information. Reveille has always given generous support to the outreach work of the Annual Conference and our opportunity to continue this tradition will be on June 17.

Reveille Coed Softball Begins Soon

Reveille has a coed softball team open to all members and frequent visitors which is about to swing into action. We play on Tuesday evenings starting on June 5and going through July 31. This is a slow-pitch league, so we play with 10 people on the field at a time, and there must be an even split of five men and five women on theSoftball field. New players are always welcome to join us. No skills are necessary, but it is helpful to have your own glove. The most important requirement is the desire to have fun and meet some other Reveille members.

Some weeks we play at Byrd Middle School on Quioccassin Road near Regency Square, and some weeks we play at Moody Middle School on Woodman Road near Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Some weeks we play at 6:30 p.m. and other weeks we play at 8:15, but we are always finished by 10:00 p.m. The schedule will appear in a later issue of The Reveille Window so that spectators can come watch the action.

If you are interested in playing, please contact Martha Hodges by e-mail here or call the church office at 359-6041, ext. 114.
