Last-Minute Reminder: Easter Egg Hunt - Saturday, March 31
Rain or shine our younger children and their families will enjoy the annual Easter egg hunt Saturday, March 31 at 10:30 a.m. Children through kindergarten need to bring a basket to gather eggs. First and second graders will go on a special scavenger hunt, so baskets will not be needed. Each family is asked to bring a plate of cookies or fruit for the refreshment table. At the end of the hunt each family will receive a children's book related to Easter in exchange for the gathered eggs.

Palm Sunday Procession
Sunday, April 1, 11:00 a.m.
As the elementary bell choir plays this Sunday morning, children through the second grade will process into the worship service waving their palm branches. We encourage parents to have their children in Sunday school by 9:30 a.m. so they will have plenty of time to practice and to learn the wonderful story of Jesus' entry into Jerusalem.
Following the children's message, the younger children will return to their Sunday school class for extended session. First and second graders will join their parents for worship. If your child is in the 2-year old class, we ask that you accompany him/her during the procession. They will return immediately to their extended session classroom after they lead the procession.

Trim work and painting continue in the new space. It is expected that the paving in the front of the church will be completed by Easter and the front door to the sanctuary will be open! Journey 101: Loving God
Reveille's discipleship process involves loving God with our hearts, knowing God with our heads, and serving God with our hands.
Journey 101: Loving God will begin Sunday, May 13, meeting from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. This six-week course will end June 17. The Loving God classes stress loving God through taking on regular spiritual disciplines as a means of receiving God's grace, resulting in the transformation of our hearts. Topics covered include worship, prayer, study, guidance, fasting and submission to God's will. Child care will be provided.
The Journey 101 course, similar in format to the Alpha course, begins with a large group teaching experience led by Jim Noland, our senior pastor, followed by small group discussions. Three classes are offered in the Journey 101 track. Journey 101: Knowing God and Journey 101: Serving God will be offered later this year.
Through Journey 101: Loving God we anticipate that those participating will not only learn about and practice the spiritual disciplines around which the six weeks are built but will also form lasting relationships with a small group of other Christians who have gathered around their table each week. If such bonds do form, we encourage the small group to continue growing with the other two Journey 101 classes. It is our hope that these bonds will lead to the formation of a small group that will stay together for a longer period of time, growing together in intentional ways and serving God together.
Register for Journey 101: Loving God here or call 359-6041, ext. 117.

Golf Until You Drop
Westview on the James in Goochland County invites golfers to join their "Golf Until You Drop" event to raise funds for the Care and Connect Fund. Through this fund, inner-city children receive a summer camp experience that is both an outdoor adventure and a faith-based encounter that introduces them to Jesus. The event takes place on Monday, April 30 at Richmond Country Club, and players can play as an individual or in two-man teams. Players must raise pledges for an amount that is pledged per hole played up to 100 holes in a day. Play is fast and the fellowship is great. Gifts and awards will be given. For more information call 240-3356.

Real Life Skills Taught in the Weekday School
As one walks through the education building during the week, children of all ages can be seen practicing the skills that they will eventually need to acquire to be successful in the world beyond Reveille. As featured in the 2012 Richmond Magazine Sourcebook, our teachers set up learning environments, where children learn to be responsible for their belongings, take care of classroom chores and have many opportunities to practice skills, such as serving others snack trays and napkins, planning with others before constructing a structure with ramps, bridges, towers and doorways in the block center and negotiating roles during dramatic play.
Last month, in room 200, the dramatic play area was changed into a grocery store. Real boxes, cans and cartons from the store filled the shelving on both sides of the "store." Store clerks donned work aprons and were given pretend money to fill the cash registers. Phones were present so that clerks could call on additional store personnel, if needed, as well as pad and pencils for customers to use while writing their lists. Recyclable grocery bags rested at the end of the counter for children to fill after items were scanned. Within this learning environment, children were recognizing and "reading" familiar labels, writing their own lists, working as a team to provide service to their customers, restocking shelves by sorting familiar objects together and using math skills as they counted scanned items into bags.
Last month, children and their parents participated in the annual teddy bear clinic. Each child listened to a presentation by medical professionals and then casted, stitched and bandaged their stuffed animal. They had the opportunity to use familiar medical supplies to explore using procedures they have seen in their pediatrician's office or an emergency room. They examined x-rays, viewed an eye chart through various vision-altering devices, listened to their own heartbeat and looked into the ears and mouths of their animals with scopes. Later, the dramatic play area was transformed into a veterinarian's clinic for ongoing play.
Many classes chopped vegetables and made pots of soup, which they shared on a winter morning with their parents. Down the hall, children enjoyed writing, illustrating and binding their own books at the writing center. We were astounded at the collection of books that were completed by the end of the week.
Across the hall, children compared and contrasted several editions of the same classics such as Goldilocks and the Three Bears. They read a new story by a different author and discussed similarities and differences between the stories. Afterward, they were given the opportunity to graph their favorite version and then role play the story using costumes and props.
Even our very youngest children are learning to be responsible for their coats, share with their neighbor, and assist a friend. We are excited to be growing the future citizens of our world! Please come take a peek into the rich and busy lives of our Reveille children.
