GPS

Grow. Pray. Serve.

Reveille UMC is a church committed to loving, knowing and serving God through worship, discipleship, service and witness. The new GPS is a weekly bulletin insert that will help prepare you for worship on Sunday, help you grow in your commitment to discipleship, and challenge you to serve God with your gifts and your witness. It is intended to be a balance between knowing God with your head (information), loving God with your heart (transformation), and serving God with your hands/feet/lips (application). Be sure to read it every week and be sure to thank those who have committed their time and gifts to create the GPS each week, including Jennifer McCluskey, Jonathan Brabrand, Rhonda Geisel, Tyler Boyd, Courtney Kuester, Keith Thompson and Burdette Robinson. Our hope is that the GPS will put Reveille members on the same page (literally) each week as we grow in our Christian worldview, Christian character, and Christian service, for the transformation of the world.

We ask parents of the children in the two-year-old class to accompany their children for the procession. The children will return to their classroom for extended session immediately following the procession.

 Proud and Published

Reveille's own Ellie Manspile, a 10th grader at Douglas Freeman High School, is now published! A story Ellie shared with the youth group two years ago, when Rev. Dori Baker visited Reveille as the Ministry Sunday preacher, has found a place in Dori's new book, The Barefoot Way. This "faith guide for youth, young adults and the people who walk with them" is a devotional book about how Christians encounter God in the most unexpected places. Ellie's story about an encounter with her younger sister and a friend was the subject of reflection by the youth group, when Dori challenged the youth to find God in each other's stories, even in the most mundane parts of life. Dori found the story so moving she chose to publish it in her collection of stories. The devotional is available to order from Cokesbury or other Christian bookstores.

Life is a challenge, and the measure of human character, and of faith, is how each person faces the challenges that life brings. On March 25, the Sunday night youth group will addrYouth Group News 65%ess how Christian faith enables us to grow through the tough times.

Our schedule is normal:

     4:30 p.m. - Middle school youth group/high school choir

     5:30 p.m. - Dinner for middle school

     6:00 p.m. - High school youth group/middle school choir

High school students: To sign up for the summer mission trip to the Eastern Shore of Virginia, please send $100, a student waiver and an emergency medical form to Dwayne in the church office by April 1. The trip is August 5-11, 2012 and we will work with Habitat for Humanity. More details are available at youth group.

Building the Reveille Team for Rebuilding Together

As part of our outreach program, Reveille will again participate in Rebuilding Together of Richmond on April 28. This program is a massive, one-day volunteer effort to help low-income homeowners maintain their homes. Each year hundreds of volunteers turn Toolsout to help elderly and physically-challenged homeowners fix leaking roofs, install wheelchair ramps, clear yard debris and make much-needed repairs. During this one-day effort over 40 houses will be repaired, with each house sponsored by a church, business or civic organization.

The program will be working in the East View neighborhood this year, and the house assigned to us is at 2204 Ford Avenue. The owner of the house is Lloyd Gray, an 82-year old Korean War Veteran. One of his daughters also lives in the house to take care of him. Mr. Gray served his country well in Korea and now needs a little help. His house has been heated for the past two years with space heaters because of a faulty furnace. Fortunately, Project Homes recently donated and installed a new furnace in the house.

The work to be done by Reveille includes replacing the kitchen cabinets, sink and plumbing, replacing flooring, repairing or replacing windows, installing storm doors and repairing damaged facia on the front and back of the house.

This year Rebuilding Together will be a special project for our youth group. Our project will not require as many volunteers as in the past, BUT, we still need your help. We need skilled adults to lead and mentor our youth on these projects as we rebuild the kitchen and exterior details, all in one day!

If you would like to volunteer to support this program or have questions please contact Tim Johnson here or 334-8425, R. C. Hall here or 690-5263, call the church office, 359-6041, or register online.
