Responding to Grace
During our stewardship pledge campaign last October we talked a lot about moments of grace and the difference those moments make in people's lives. Your enthusiastic response to the stewardship campaign call has certainly been one of those moments.
Our 2012 pledge budget goal is $1,162,000. So far we've raised $1,080,000, an amount well ahead of the pace from last year. During this pledge campaign we've talked about the possibility of a budget shortfall of $120,000. But through your generosity, pledges we've received so far have already reduced that shortfall to $82,000. We are truly on our way to helping fulfill Reveille's ongoing vision: "Making a Transformative Difference in God's World."
Our hope is that over the coming weeks those who have not yet pledged will prayerfully consider pledging and we'll be able to raise the additional $82,000 needed to reach our budget goal. The more pledges we realize, the more informed and efficient our 2012 planning will be, allowing us to fully support our ministry and outreach programs in service to others. For your convenience, there are 2012 pledge cards in the pew racks and they can be returned in the offering plate on Sunday morning or mailed directly to the church office. If you have any questions please call the church office at 359-6041.
There are so many moments of grace, both large and small, that are part of our lives here at Reveille, in our community and around the world. With our new building space opening and our planned ministry and outreach programs, 2012 promises to be another exciting and difference-making year. Our shared support of Reveille's ministry and outreach programs enables us to serve others in the name of Christ, and we greatly appreciate your efforts in making that happen.
In faith,
Your Stewardship Committee

Construction Update: January 8, 2012
Power Transfer Successful as
Building Project Rolls On
While we were all enjoying a few days off at Christmas, Taylor and Parrish and Virginia Dominion Power were at work installing the permanent electrical power source for the new building. The power shutdown took place as scheduled with no disruption to Reveille's weekly flow. The dormer above the main stairway was removed at the same time and an exterior firewall built at the roof line.
The most exciting visible change that can be noted from Cary Street is the placement of the large windows in the new chapel. The addition of those windows gives the face of the building a new, vibrant look, a we-are-getting-ready-for-you look. New construction is 70% complete, which is exciting. We do not have a promised total completion time from the contractor just yet.

First of Ten: Enjoy!
I hope you will enjoy the First of Ten celebratory postludes for 2012. Most of them will be no longer than six minutes, so you can move on to your next event in a timely fashion. Today, I will speak about our Austin pipe organ. Did you know that we have one of the best pipe organ arrangements in the city? Our Austin was built in 1954, has three manuals (keyboards) plus the pedals. It contains 36 ranks of pipes. Each rank has roughly 61 pipes, so we have 2,196 pipes in the organ chambers, which are located on either side of the chancel. I say it is one of the best arrangements because while not the largest organ in the city, it is housed in one of the best sanctuaries, acoustically, which makes it sound even larger and grander than it is. Please enjoy Marcel Dupre's "Cortege et Litanie." Thank you, Reveille.

Reveille UMW 10th Annual
Spiritual Life Retreat
February 4
8:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon
"What is a Hymn, Anyway?"
Led by Donna Fay Kessel
Ladies: Have you marked your calendar for Saturday, February 4 to participate in the United Methodist Women's 10th Spiritual Life Retreat? It promises to be a morning filled with good food, fellowship and music. The retreat will explore the origins of hymns, their authors, and the extraordinary circumstances of their compositions. There will be time to sing favorite hymns and look at some new praise songs. Along the way there will be the opportunity to tell stories about the hymns that have impacted our lives and our faith.
Donna Fay Kessel, the current Reveille UMW President, will be leading the retreat. She comes to us with a love of music, having been a member of Reveille's chancel choir for more than 30 years, and is a frequent soloist at Sunday services.
Ask a friend or two to join you for the retreat. The day will begin with coffee and breakfast snacks at 8:30 a.m. and end with lunch at noon. The cost for the event is $25, which includes breakfast and lunch.
More information and the registration form are available here, or from Lili Boyd; please call her at 763-5655.

Glorious Gifts Wrap-up
Through Glorious Gifts 2011, more than $21,000 was raised for 10 mission projects. Even though this was a little short of the overall goal, three projects exceeded their goals: Stop Hunger Now, CARITAS, and the UMW Prison Ministry.
There are many people who helped make Glorious Gifts possible, and I'd like to thank them. Appreciation goes to David Collett and the Outreach Committee for getting the process started, to Alva Haley and Ginny McEachern for folding the forms and stuffing them into envelopes for the mailing, to Abby Kocher and everyone else involved with The Point for sharing the fellowship hall on the shopping days, to all the project chairs for setting up and sitting with their displays on the shopping days, to Glynis Holcomb, Anne Stratton, and Cheryl Arrington for all their help in the office, to Bill Wright and Thomas Goodall for their help with setting up and cleaning up, and to Susan Collett for recruiting volunteers for the shopping days. A special thank you goes to Glenda Lewis for setting up the online shopping option on the Reveille website, and another special thank you goes to Bob Downs for coordinating the printing of the cards. Also, thank you to everyone who supported Glorious Gifts. Look for us again during the Christmas 2012 season.
