Year-End Giving

Are you planning to make donations to Reveille in late December that you plan to claim on your 2011 income tax return?  If the answer is yes, following are the details that you need to know.  Donations must be delivered or mailed and postmarked on or by December 31, 2011 in order to claim a charitable contribution deduction for 2011.  Checks that are placed in the church offering during the first worship service in 2012 will not qualify for a charitable contribution deduction in 2011 even if the check is predated to 2011 or was actually written in 2011.  However, checks that are written, mailed, and postmarked in 2011 will be deductible in 2011 though they are not received by Reveille until 2012.  If you have any questions, please feel free to call Glynis Holcomb, financial manager, 359-6041, ext. 118.

An Update from the Building Committee

Building Progress on Target

As the year ends, the Building Committee is happy to report that all is well with the progress of the new building. Brickwork continues around the front of the new structure. A flurry of activity is happening inside the building with plumbing and electrical works being roughed in and steel partitions being erected for the walls.

At the end of December the dormer will be removed from the main hallway staircase and the firewall constructed on the outside of that area. Also still scheduled in December is the major electrical shutdown in the education building. If all goes as planned, the electrical interruption will take place between December 26-30 and will cause very little disruption to the weekday flow at Reveille. The Weekday School will not be in session and will not be inconvenienced and Reveille House will keep its electricity during that time and remain unaffected.

You may also have noticed the wonderful new landscape additions in the parking lot around the newly installed storm retention system. Jimmy Shepherd has done a great job adding simple beauty to the functional required drainage system. As these plantings mature, we will hardly notice the system and really enjoy the new landscape.

This is also a good time to reflect on our blessings as a congregation. As we all anxiously await the spring unveiling of the new addition, we can all say a prayer of thanks for the Building Committee and its co-chairmen, Jim Overacre and Mark Bell. The Building Committee has done a tireless job from its very first meeting of planning and overseeing details as the architectural plans emerged. Once ground was broken, the Building Committee has continued to weigh in on the many, many details that pop up during construction. We owe much gratitude to Jim Overacre for his weekly oversight of the project and his constant communication with the construction company, Taylor and Parrish. To that we add our blessings for the workers who have laid the foundation, set the outer walls with their intricate brickwork, raised the roof, and now begin the interior construction. They are executing our vision in an efficient and precise way.

May each of you find many blessings and experience the peace and wonder of Christmas as we celebrate our most precious gift, salvation through baby Jesus.

- Claire Kaugars
