 Service of Remembrance

for Those Who Grieve

This Sunday, December 11

The holiday season can often be a difficult time, especially for those who have lost loved ones. To help care for people facing Service of Remembrance candlegrief and loss during the holiday season, Congregational Care will hold a Service of Remembrance this Sunday, December 11, at 2:00 p.m. in the sanctuary. We will light candles, sing familiar hymns, read scripture, pray and hear an informal message. We hope this is a time when we are comforted through our fellowship together and through the Christmas message that we hear in scripture and song. Whatever the nature of your loss and however long you have borne it, we welcome you to join us. Refreshments will follow the service.

Do not leave valuables in your car for even just a moment under any circumstances. It takes only a moment for someone to smash the glass and remove your valuables from the vehicle. We have a report of that happening recently on our grounds.

Help Feed the Homeless

HOT MEAL

Richmond's homeless population needs us this Thursday, December 15, when we will serve a hot meal of roasted chicken, cheesy potato casserole, green beans and dessert. You can help by providing one of the casseroles. The recipe, with drop-off instructions, can be picked up from the sign-up board near the welcome center or in the fellowship hall.

You can also help by being one of the servers at Greater Mt. Moriah Baptist Church for an hour or two. You may meet us at Reveille at 10:45 a.m. and carpool or meet us at the site.  If needed, child care is available while serving the meal. To request child care, Friends of the Homelessplease contact Carol Uzzle here or call her at 359-6041, ext. 117.

For more information about Reveille's participation with Friends of the Homeless, please call Kay Craven at 270-0686 or e-mail her here.

                                  BAG LUNCHES

On December 26, lunches for some of Richmond's homeless persons will be special, and your help is needed. We will deliver bag lunches to the Mt. Moriah Friends of the Homeless feeding site on the Monday following Christmas, but the basic bag lunch will be assembled on Sunday, December 18. There will be no bologna and cheese sandwiches but a mini feast in a bag! There will be hot soup, a package of StarKist Lunch to Go (tuna), homemade cookies, fresh fruit, and a drink.

Our families with older elementary children will be contributing to this lunch, but we will also need your help with these 160 bag lunches. If you would like to help provide a portion of the needed items, please e-mail Jennifer Huneycutt or Carol Uzzle or call Carol at 359-6041, ext. 117.

Year-End Giving

Are you planning to make donations to Reveille in late December that you plan to claim on your 2011 income tax return?  If the answer is yes, following are the rules that you need to know.  Donations must be delivered or mailed and postmarked on or by December 31, 2011 in order to claim a charitable contribution deduction for 2011.  Checks that are placed in the church offering during the first worship service in 2012 will not qualify for a charitable contribution deduction in 2011 even if the check is predated to 2011 or was actually written in 2011.  However, checks that are written, mailed, and postmarked in 2011 will be deductible in 2011 though they are not received by Reveille until 2012.  If you have any questions, please feel free to call Glynis Holcomb, financial manager, 359-6041, ext. 118.
