Last-minute reminder:
Decorating for Advent
Saturday, December 3
You are invited to join the Liturgical Arts Committee in preparing our church for the season of Advent. On Saturday, December 3, at 9:00 a.m., we will gather in the sanctuary to put up the decorations. There is a new 15-foot pre-lit Chrismon tree to decorate, garlands and wreaths to hang, windows to decorate, and more. Although there is no official hanging of the greens service this year, all ages are encouraged to join in the fellowship and make the Committee's job merrier. Donuts, coffee and juice will be provided.
To enter the building, please use either the small door to the right of The Garth, which goes directly behind the sanctuary, or the double doors by the choir room (the doors closest to Reveille House).
For more information, please contact Margaret Hamilton here, or call 355-1908. |

Glorious Gifts
Shop in the fellowship hall or online
You may already have shopped Glorious Gifts online. Now we are offering two shopping days in the fellowship hall: This Sunday, December 4, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and the following Sunday, December 11, also from 10:30 to 1:00.
The ministries participating in Glorious Gifts have created shopping lists with a wide variety of items priced between $1 and $1000. There are plenty of ways to honor relatives, friends, teachers, choir directors, babysitters, neighbors, and anyone else you want to honor at Christmas. Shopping lists have been mailed out and more copies are available in the narthex, fellowship hall, church office, and online here (www.reveilleumc.org/gg). Previously we highlighted Friends of Barnabas Honduras Medical Mission Trip, CARITAS, Friends of the Homeless, Rebuilding Together, Westview Camperships, and Stop Hunger Now. Our final two projects are Prison Ministry of the United Methodist Women and the Youth Mission Trips.
PRISON MINISTRY
Reveille's United Methodist Women (UMW) have formed a partnership with the Chesterfield Women's Detention and Diversion Center. UMW members serve as mentors, purchase materials for their education services, and make personal care kits which are given to new inmates. They also stock a clothes closet with gently-used clothing, which the inmates can use for their graduation ceremony and job interviews.
YOUTH MISSION TRIPS
Reveille's youth believe service is an essential part of their faith. Each year they participate in short-term local missions and longer mission trips. In 2012, the youth have a full summer of service planned. Thirty-four middle school youth and eight adults are signed up to participate in the Jeremiah Project, a middle school mission camp where youth perform home repairs and improvements for the elderly, poor and disabled in Winchester, VA and Romney, WV. In August as many as 25 high school youth will spend a week on the Eastern Shore of Virginia working on new home construction with Habitat for Humanity. In addition, ten youth and four adults will spend nine days in Usulutn, El Salvador constructing homes with Habitat for Humanity.
These trips are life-changing for those our youth serve, and for the youth, who reflect on their mission experiences as the times they feel closest to God. Your support through Glorious Gifts is essential to enable these experiences to happen. To shop online now, click here.

Service of Remembrance
Sunday, December 11
The holiday season can often be a difficult time, especially for those who have lost loved ones. To help care for people facing grief and loss during the holiday season, Congregational Care will hold a Service of Remembrance on Sunday, December 11, at 2:00 p.m. in the sanctuary. We will light candles, sing familiar hymns, read scripture, pray and hear an informal message. We hope this is a time when we are comforted through our fellowship together and through the Christmas message that we hear in scripture and song. Whatever the nature of your loss and however long you have borne it, we welcome you to join us. Refreshments will follow the service.

Year-End Giving
Are you planning to make donations to Reveille in late December that you plan to claim on your 2011 income tax return? If the answer is yes, following are the rules that you need to know:
Donations must be delivered or mailed and postmarked on or by December 31, 2011 in order to claim a charitable contribution deduction for 2011. Checks that are placed in the church offering during the first worship service in 2012 will not qualify for a charitable contribution deduction in 2011 even if the check is predated to 2011 or was actually written in 2011. However, checks that are written, mailed, and postmarked in 2011 will be deductible in 2011 though they are not received by Reveille until 2012. If you have any questions, please feel free to call Glynis Holcomb, financial manager, 359-6041, ext. 118.
