First Graders to Receive Hymnals
During the 11:00 service this Sunday, November 20, we will recognize the 21 first graders who participated in the Children and Worship class this fall. At a special brunch preceding this service, each child will receive a copy of the United Methodist Hymnal.
The Children and Worship Class is designed to help children become familiar with the worship service, enabling them to participate fully. Since September, the children have met those who lead us in worship and learned about the different parts of the worship service. They learned why we do what we do in worship. On November 6 they helped prepare the table for Communion.
Our thanks go to Kim Hicks, Angela Elliott, Melanie and Kevin Stoudt for their leadership.

Get ready to shop at Glorious Gifts
Online November 20 to December 16
In the fellowship hall on December 4 and 11
Glorious Gifts is an alternative marketplace where you can buy gifts of supplies or services for charitable organizations in honor of your friends and loved ones. These gifts will support eight of Reveille's outreach projects. You may shop at Glorious Gifts in the fellowship hall from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Sundays, December 4 and 11. Online shopping begins this Sunday, November 20 and will conclude December 16.
The eight outreach projects participating in Glorious Gifts this year are Friends of Barnabas (Honduras Medical Mission Trip), youth mission trips in the Summer of 2012, CARITAS, Friends of the Homeless, Rebuilding Together, United Methodist Women prison ministry, Westview on the James camperships, and Stop Hunger Now. Last week we highlighted CARITAS and Stop Hunger Now. This week we highlight Friends of Barnabas and Westview on the James camperships.
Friends of Barnabas
Through partnership with the Friends of Barnabas Foundation, the Reveille congregation will coordinate and equip a team of volunteers to provide medical care, eye care, and preventive care to the impoverished people of the rural mountains of Honduras, Central America. Teams travel to the most remote villages where there is no electricity or clean water. With their simple work lives are saved every day. Stu Blain will lead the Reveille team July 14-22, 2012. People who have participated with previous Honduras teams have found the trip to be an extremely rewarding experience.
Westview on the James
A campership to Westview on the James offers an inner-city child an opportunity to leave the harsh concrete jungle of their day-to-day life and escape into God's beautiful outdoors. At camp the children swim, take long walks in the woods identifying bugs, plants and trees, learn new songs, meet new friends, play and laugh, all in the safety of loving and supportive camp counselors. Reveille works with families in the Swansboro community to select children for camperships.

Annual Charge Conference to Be Held November 30
This year's annual charge conference will be held on Wednesday, November 30, at 7:30 p.m. in the church parlor. In keeping with The Discipline of the United Methodist Church, this important meeting will be chaired by our senior pastor, Dr. Jim Noland, who was authorized to preside over the meeting by the Reverend Dr. Steve Jones, Richmond District Superintendent.
The purposes of this charge conference are to review and celebrate our ministries in 2011, set the 2012 compensation for our clergy, elect officers for 2012, and approve a distribution from the endowment.
All church members may attend the meeting, but voting members of the charge conference are defined by The Discipline as members of the Church Council together with retired ordained clergy who have their charge conference membership with Reveille.

The Architectural Drawing Takes Life
(November 6) At this exciting point in the construction process, most of the building is fully outlined and we can all fully see what was intended in all those architectural drawings. The steel has been erected and the decking for the chapel roof is just about complete. The floor in the youth space and the second story floor/roof deck over the youth space have been poured, and the roofing is nearing completion.
The welcome center steel roof decking has been installed and the roof is being installed now. The framework for the false tile mansard roof is in place. The chapel and welcome center floors have been poured.
The brickwork has been beautifully appointed with an excellent color and pattern match and has been completed on the north wall of the building. Work on the brick is continuing around the east side of the youth space. The bell tower was moved to its new location with the greatest expertise, and the support block work has begun.
At this point the major electrical shutdown in the education building is planned for December 27-29, with full restoration of power on December 30. The shutdown is dependent upon confirmation from Virginia Dominion Power and the city inspections office.
Final city approval for lighting in the new parking lot has not yet been resolved. The city requires a certain wattage, which lighting similar to our existing parking lights would exceed. The Building Committee continues to research the most visually-compatible, yet city-code-compliant lighting possible.

Get Your Hands Wet
(so to speak)
Each Sunday night, 150 children, youth, and volunteers enjoy a delicious meal after choir or youth group. At one time, these meals were served on styrofoam plates which were simply dumped into the trash along with the paper cups and plastic cutlery. Each week, these meals generated numerous plastic trash bags, bulging with non-biodegradable waste. For the past three years, however, the Sunday night meals have been served using Reveille's china, glasses, and reusable utensils.By making these changes, Reveille has purchased fewer disposable products and substantially reduced what it sends weekly to the landfill. Most importantly, we have become better stewards of the resources which God has given us.
Dedicated volunteers take a turn washing these items each Sunday night, using Reveille's fast and easy-to-operate commercial dishwasher. Please consider getting your hands wet (figuratively) one Sunday night every 4-6 weeks. Help us to continue our green stewardship; contact Stephen Coleman if can help.
