Chimes are Restored

This past Christmas, the chimes inside the pipe organ chamber (on the lectern side) literally fell down - with a great CRASH! A donor came forward to provide funding for the restoration of the chimes, and the work was recently completed. You will have the opportunity to hear the chimes each week announcing the beginning of worship, and you will hear them this Sunday featured in the prelude, "Cortege," from Cortege et Litanie, composed by Marcel Dupr. We hope you will enjoy the ringing of the chimes as an additional avenue of praising God in worship.

Your Pledge Can Make a Difference in God's World

This year's stewardship theme has been Responding to Grace, because our giving is an opportunity to respond to God's grace in our lives. We have had wonderful response, but for those who haven't yet submitted a pledge, we ask that you take some time to prayerfully consider your pledge to fund the 2012 Reveille operating budget, and the moments of grace that financial support provides.

Pledge 2011

Pledge cards went out in the mail, but you can also pick up one from the church pew racks, the fellowship hall, or the church office. If you haven't already, please fill out your pledge card and place it in the offering plate during church or send it to Glynis Holcomb in the church office.

Receiving your pledge is an important part of the church's planning for 2012, allowing for more informed and effective outreach and ministry efforts during the year. Your timely response will help as 2012 budgets and plans are developed.

Thank you for your support in making a transformative difference in God's world.

Wonderful Wednesday

Experience the 2011 Annual Conference with Dick Davis, Part 2

November 9

At the October 12 Wonderful Wednesday, Dick Davis presented our first look at Annual Conference 2011. An informative introduction to the overall purpose and agenda of the conference was followed by video of a wonderful sermon. This began a three-part series about Annual Conference.

Wonderful Wednesday 2

On November 9, part 2 in this series will give us a look at what in the world the United Methodist Church is doing. Who are we helping and how are we doing it? Your money is used to provide this help, along with the hard work of fellow United Methodists, so wouldn't you like to know what is being done? You will hear selected excerpts from a Bible study conducted by the General Chairman of Global Ministries for our extended church. His story is the story of United Methodism in the world today.

You will hear the report from the Virginia Conference Common Table (Don't know what this is? Come and find out.)You also will see how a vote on important work of the church is conducted with two thousand people in attendance. How are individuals recognized to speak on issues in such a large group?

Prior to the program, be sure to join us for our fellowship meal, which will be pork chops, parsley potatoes, mixed green salad with goat cheese and Craisins, crown rolls, fruit and brownies. The cost of the meal is $7 for adults and teens, $3 for children ages 4 to 12 and free for anyone under 4. You may make your dinner reservation online here, mark the Wonderful Wednesday box on the friendship pad on Sunday or call the church office (359-6041) by 3:00 p.m. on Monday, November 7.

This special event provides the opportunity to become acquainted with the 10-week Alpha course and to hear how those who have participated this fall have grown in their faith.  Following dinner there will be an opportunity to see a video presentation by Nicky Gumbel entitled How Can I Make the Most of My Life? Participants will share how Alpha has impacted their lives over the past ten weeks. We hope you will come and invite friends and family members who are seeking to understand the Christian faith or to grow in their faith. Youth Choir JAM is Back!

Youth Choir JAM has returned to Reveille, by popular demand. JAM is a weekend festival for area youth choirs, directed by a nationally renowned conductor, and it has been taking place annually since 1994. JAM has been held in several area churches through the years and is returning to Reveille for the first time since 2005. The dates are Friday and Saturday, November 18 and 19, with the Festival Concert taking place on that Saturday at 3:00 p.m.

This year, we are pleased to have one of Richmond's own as conductor - Dr. Mark Patterson, Director of Music Ministries at Salisbury Presbyterian Church in Midlothian.

Dr. Patterson is known for his fresh, energetic arrangements for older children's choirs and is in demand throughout the United States as a festival conductor. Several of our youth were under the direction of Dr. Patterson a few years ago at Lake Junaluska Music Week.

Please join us for the Festival Concert; all are welcome. You will enjoy hearing various musical styles sung by the massed youth choir and help those in need at the same time. A free will offering will be collected, a portion of which will go to CARITAS - Congregations Around Richmond Involved To Assure Shelter.
