TopHow Will You Respond to Grace?

This year's stewardship theme is "Responding to Grace," and Consecration Sunday, October 30, is our opportunity to respond to God's grace in our lives.  We ask that you take some time to prayerfully consider your pledge to fund the 2012 Reveille operating budget and the moments of grace that financial support provides.

Pledge cards have been sent in the mail and will be available in both the sanctuary pew racks and at The Point. After prayerful reflection, please fill out a pledge card and bring it with you on Sunday during our special time of dedication. If you will not be in worship on Sunday, please mail your pledge card to the church office.

Thank you for your support in making a transformative difference in God's world.

Construction Progress is Visible

By Claire Kaugars

October 18, 2011

The new building project is steadily taking shape. Walls have gone up for the addition during the past four months, helping to shape that original architectural drawing into reality - a very exciting reality. All the major steel support beams are in place and the electrical and plumbing rough-in work is almost complete. The next step will be pouring of the concrete roof decking and the floor slab.

As with any building project, change orders are inevitable. The Reveille Building Committee did a fantastic job of thinking through all details to minimize the change orders. Small change orders have been necessary, but these changes have not impacted the overall budget.

The greatest change order challenge came about with resetting the bell tower. The contractor was not able to determine the extent of a new foundation until the tower was raised and a foundation design provided. Member, Steven Roberts, and his brother, a structural engineer, provided a design. Due to the size and depth of the hole needed to set the tower and remove the steel support beams, the location initially designated was determined to be too close to the sanitary sewer and storm water drain lines to accomplish this work. Another site had to be selected. This site will be north and east of the original site. A tree must be removed and additional masonry work will be needed to provide an adequate bell tower foundation.

The two Focal Point bio retention systems have been installed in the parking lot islands and landscaping around them needs to be completed.

With no unanticipated delays in the project, our addition should be completed in March.

A slide show of building progress may now be viewed on our website.

Adopt an Attitude of Gratitude

The committee member who is always present and on time. The volunteer who takes the time to teach a new team member what to do. The team who cleans up after a church function without complaint. There are many unsung heroes - individuals and teams who perform a myriad to tasks that keep the mission of Reveille moving forward. A simple thank you is sometimes not enough to honor their contributions.

GratitudeGratitude boxes are located just outside the sanctuary on one of the narthex tables and in the fellowship hall near the sound closet. With these boxes are brightly-colored cards on which you can express appreciation for a job well done, a contribution beyond the call of duty, or other acts you wish to recognize. They may be addressed to individuals or a team of people.

There will be a response to these expressions of gratitude. From the church office, a note of appreciation will be sent to let these people know that they have been recognized. More public recognition will be made through a display board spotlighting their contributions to the family of Reveille. This board is located beside the choir room.

Research shows that grateful people are happier than those who don't take time to count their blessings and say "thanks," so be sure to adopt an attitude of gratitude!

Simplify Your Giving with EFT

Instead of dropping an envelope in the offering plate each Sunday, you may want to consider a simpler way to give to Reveille United Methodist Church - Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT).

EFT allows your offering to be debited automatically from your bank account on a monthly basis. There is no cash to gather, no checks to write, and no envelopes to track down. EFT also is easier for church staff, since there are no deposit slips and no trips to the bank. It is even simpler than paying online through BillPay or a similar account, which still sends Reveille a check.

You don't have to wait until you make or renew your pledge to begin using Electronic Funds Transfer; it can be arranged at any time of year. To complete an EFT authorization form or for more information, please contact Glynis Holcomb, Reveille's financial manager, here or at 359-6041, ext. 118.

History of Reveille CD is Here

Back in March, Bill Perkins, President of the Richmond District Historical Society (of the United Methodist Church in Virginia), made a presentation here on the heritage and history of our church. This presentation was preserved on compact disc and we have two copies in the adult library. If any Sunday school class, small group or individual would like to see this presentation, please check out one of the CDs.

A Prayer Ministry Moment

by Martha White

Some years ago - around 1993 - when Dr. Richard Worden was pastor at Reveille, Carolyn Little suggested that we start a prayer ministry. An organizational meeting was called and I attended thinking it a great idea. At this meeting, it was decided that we pray for an hour each weekday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Janet Nunnally and I decided to be prayer partners. After her death, I chose to continue by myself. I consider it quite beneficial and I have gotten much satisfaction and spiritual growth from my monthly participation. The time has come when I need to turn over my second Tuesday each month to someone younger, but I will miss it greatly.

How You Can Be a Prayer Partner

A Thank You Note to the People of Reveille

We have received a note of gratitude from the management at Stop Hunger Now. Part of it is reprinted here:

Dear Friends of Stop Hunger Now,

We are happy to inform you that on October 25th meals from your Stop Hunger Now packaging event were loaded at our Richmond warehouse onto a 20' container of 142,500 meals. Those meals headed to Norfolk VA, where they were shipped to Haiti Outreach Ministries in Port au Prince Haiti. Haiti Outreach Ministries (HOM) is a Christian mission to the people of Haiti, the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.  We focus on extremely impoverished areas in and near the capital of Port au Prince, currently serving the communities of Blanchard (Terre Noire), Cite Soleil, Ibo Beach (Source Maielas) and Repatriote. Lives will be changed because of you!

With gratitude,

The folks at Stop Hunger Now

Good Food for a Good Cause on November 3

United Methodist Family Services (UMFS) is receiving fundraising help from California Pizza Kitchen to benefit UMFS's adoption, foster care, school, and numerous other services for children and teens.

A pizza feast will take place all day Thursday, November 3, at California Pizza Kitchen's location at Short Pump Town Center. The restaurant will donate 20% of the proceeds to UMFS. Here's an idea: Get a group of friends together for a meal of good food, good fun and mission. As they say at UMFS, "Join us for an event where giving won't just feel good, it'll taste good!"

Click here to pull up the downloadable coupon that you must print and bring with you to give to your server at California Pizza Kitchen. For those without internet service, copies will be available at church this Sunday, and in the church office through Thursday, November 3. Also, you may contact Sheelagh Davis, Reveille's UMFS representative, at 231-1623 for a copy.
