"If you really knew me...." Often even our best friends know only superficial facts about us. They do not know our deepest hurts and biggest dreams. God knows us intimately, but what would we learn about one another if we knew each other as God knows us? This Sunday, September 18, at youth group we will explore how each of us might complete the statement, "If you really knew me, you would know...."
We will be experimenting with a new set-up for youth group. There will be three different experiences available and youth choose which group they want to join: fellowship, topical discussion or small group. Our aim is to make the youth group feel a bit more personal for those looking for more depth, and less intimidating for those who are new.
Our schedule for the evening is
4:30 p.m. - Middle school youth group/high school choir
5:30 p.m. - Dinner ($3)
6:00 p.m. - High school youth group/middle school choir
Please remember Tatiana and Jose, the two children our youth group sponsors through World Vision. Two dollars a month from each youth provides education, medical care, and support for Tatiana's and Jose's entire communities to help them improve their lives.
Grab your Frisbees! Sunday is the deadline to register for the Welborne United Methodist Church Ultimate Frisbee Tournament. The October 2 tournament includes a middle school and a high school league. Proceeds will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. If you have not registered already, please notify Dwayne immediately that you wish to play, and get a check for $20 (made out to Reveille UMC) to him.
Plans are already underway for next summer's middle school mission teams to Jeremiah Project. Jeremiah Project is a home repair organization dedicated to empowering middle school youth to do hands-on missions. It is a fun balance of service, worship and recreation. Slots go fast, though, so we have to register early. To secure a spot on the team, a deposit of $100 is due to Dwayne by September 30, along with the registration form you should have received by mail. After that date there is no guarantee that you will be able to participate.
The possible dates for Jeremiah Project are
June 24-30, 2012
July 1-7, 2012
July 8-14, 2012
July 15-21, 2012
July 22-28, 2012
July 29-August 4, 2012
We will sign up for the week(s) that suit the most team members, and we should have confirmation of our dates by late October.

 Spotlight on Children's Music Ministry
Lili Boyd has been assisting Martha Hodges with the children's bell choirs for eight years. She has also played in the Reveille Ringers for ten years. Lili received a bachelor's degree from the College of William and Mary, a master's degree from Vanderbilt University, and another degree from Longwood University. After five years teaching middle school and ten years as a stay-at-home mom, Lili will work with students this fall at Maybeury Elementary in their PRIME tutoring program.
Lili continues to work with the children's handbell choirs at Reveille year after year because she loves ringing handbells and enjoys sharing this love with our children. Lili especially enjoys getting to know them and seeing that "light bulb moment" when they figure out how to read music and play bells!
Leigh Brabrand began music ministry at age four, when she joined the cherub choir in her home church, and continued through her youth participating in her church's youth and sanctuary choirs. Her first music love is playing the flute, and she also enjoys playing piano. Leigh has been a part of Reveille's music ministry since joining the church in 1999. This is her third year as co-director of Primary Choir, and she has also accompanied Primary and Cherub Choir. Leigh is a full-time mom to her three children, is a non-practicing attorney, who now works at a downtown law firm in employee relations. She loves teaching children the songs she loved so well growing up in church choirs and says that hearing children sing about God inspires her to remember how God wants us to have child-like trust in Him.
Lori Salmon is in her third year as co-director of Primary Choir and has always enjoyed working with the children of Reveille. She and her husband, John, taught Sunday school together for over ten years prior to this. Lori received a bachelor's degree from Radford University and taught as a special education teacher in Henrico and Chesterfield County public schools for eleven years. After taking several years to stay home with her three children, Lori went back to work and is in her seventh year as a preschool teacher at Discovery United Methodist Church. All of Lori's children have been involved in Reveille's Music Ministry, and Lori recently chaperoned the youth summer mission trip to New York City. She also chaperoned the Outer Banks Youth Choir trip last summer. Lori has had several years of piano training and gained her love of music from her mother and grandparents. "The sounds of the piano and voices ringing out Methodist hymns throughout my home as a child will forever be a part of my memories." She hopes to share that love with her own children and the children with whom she works.

Maggie Farmer in Moldava
Susan and I would like to thank members of Reveille for your kind thoughts and prayers for Maggie while she is serving in the Peace Corps in Moldova and provide you with an update. Around the end of August, she completed her training phase with the other Peace Corps volunteers of her cycle. She spent her first two months studying Romanian [language], Moldovan culture and traditions, and education techniques in a village just outside the capital city of Chisinau. After the completion of her training, Maggie moved to her permanent site in Criuleni to begin her 2-year service of teaching English. Criuleni is a village of about 9,000 located approximately 40 km northeast of Chisinau. Maggie said that she understands she is the only Peace Corps volunteer, and perhaps the only American, within a 30-km radius.
Maggie has been keeping a blog about her time in the Peace Corps since she left Richmond. If you would like to read about her work, you can visit her blog here.
