Construction Update

The Building Takes Shape

No longer do we need the bird's eye view from the second story of the education building to see the progress of the n

ew construction. Just drive by Reveille on Cary Street to see the chapel taking shape. Outlines of the windows in the south end of the new chapel are visible as the outside walls rise. The dry weather has helped keep the construction steady, but the work has been hot and hard for the stone masons and the project is slightly behind schedule. A steel beam will soon be hoisted for the roof. Once this crucial beam is in place along the length of the chapel it will be possible to visualize the roofline of the chapel. A second even more crucial beam will be laid horizontally across the chapel also to support the roof. The first of these beams are due to be set at the end of August or beginning of September.

As the walls stretch high, down on the ground the gas lines have been seamlessly completed with little disruption to the parking lot

At the time this article was written plans for the near future included two events with possible impact on the congregation. First, the focal point systems and needed pipes for the storm water management system will be laid beneath the parking lot causing a temporary change of traffic flow. The more significant change is the electrical shutdown to the church, fellowship hall, and education building for installation of wiring to the new building and upgrading to code of the wiring in the existing parts of the building. The shutdown has been delayed; we will share information about rescheduling as soon as we can.

Hunger crisis in the Horn of Africa is devastating

What You Can Do to Help

A famine has been declared in five regions of Somalia. The United Nations predicts that the famine will spread across all regions within the next two months. As many as 12 million people are at risk of severe malnutrition or starvation as the region faces the worst drought conditions in 60 years. It is estimated that more than 29,000 children younger than age 5 have died in the past 90 days in southern Somalia.

What can we do to help? Monetary gifts to UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) will be used to help provide urgently-needed relief. If you wish to help, please make your check payable to Reveille UMC and mark in the memo section Horn of Africa Crisis. One hundred percent of this gift will be used for relief; none will be used for administrative purposes.
