Youth team will share mission experience this Sunday
In worship on Sunday August 14, our youth will share a taste of their mission trip to New York City. The theme for the day is "Amazing Joseph." We will hear from youth mission team members at each service as they share their experiences serving the homeless in New York. The music in all three worship services will feature select songs from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat musical, which the youth choir performed during their New York trip. We look forward to celebrating the ways that Reveille's youth have grown in faith through their summer mission trip.

We do not expect Sunday services to be affected.

August book review to be held at Cedarfield
Due to a power outage in the church building, which may occur during the week of August 22, our last book review of this summer will move to Cedarfield. Join us at Cedarfield's club house on Wednesday, August 24, at 10:30 a.m. for refreshments. The book review will begin at 11:00 a.m.
Author Jasmin Darznik will talk about her book, The Good Daughter: A Memoir of My Mother's Hidden Life, in which she tells a story she did not know until in her mid-twenties when she discovered a photograph of her mother, as a bride of 13, standing by a man that was not Jasmin's father. What follows is an incredible journey for Jasmin and her mother as they learn from each other over tea and through storytelling.

Looking back at Day Camp 2011
Do All the Good You Can
During the week of July 25, Reveille's 40 day campers took to heart John Wesley's challenge to do all the good you can. In spite of record high temperatures, the campers gleaned tomatoes through Society of St. Andrew, worked to restore the Swansboro Elementary garden, explored Shalom Farms at Westview-on-the-James, prepared and served a hot meal at two Richmond Friends of the Homeless sites, visited in the homes of Reveille members, and filled goodie bags for those attending All God's Children Camp. In addition, they collected many bags of books to be distributed by Richmond Friends of the Homeless, as well as hand sanitizer and tissues for Swansboro Elementary students. Their daily offerings for Nothing But Nets (through UMCOR) totaled $201, which will provide 20 mosquito nets to the poor in malaria-plagued areas of Africa. The week's focus on outreach was enhanced through Bible study, song, crafts, and witness by various Reveille members and staff. In order to gaining a better understanding of homelessness, 10 day campers, 8 youth and 4 adults tried sleeping outside at Reveille in shelters they constructed from cardboard and duct tape.
It was an enriching and transformative week for all, and it could not have succeeded without the help of many. In addition to the campers themselves, the following gave generously of their time and talents: Cathy Armistead; Skip Bottom; Billie and Gene Brooks; Gerald Bullock; Susan Bullock; Betty Caplan; Stephen Coleman; David, Kirby and Susan Collett; Jamie, Kay, Mason, and Brian Craven; David Daniels; Donna Davis; Karen Davis; Toree Davis; Jean Donaldson; Susan Farmer; Pat Gladin; Thomas Goodall; Betsy Guy; Alva Haley; Sarah Hayes; Creighton Hite; Glynis Holcomb; Carlos Izaguire; Dwight Johnson; Abby Kocher; Cal Kuester; Tiffany Lange; Carol Anne Lea; Glenda Lewis; Daniel Malamphy; Ginnie and Bob McEachearn; Sandy and Cooper Michalik; Lisa and Carter Mitchell; John Moerner; Jim Noland; Sherry Oelkers; David Overman; Carrie and Reggie Potts; Tiffany Powers; Allie Putnam; Debra Powell-Roberts; Hazel and PC Shields; Mary Simmons; Lynne, Rachel, and Ryan Smith; Ellie, Jay and Walker Speer; Jeanne Putnam Stallings; Dwayne Stinson; Anne Stratton; Mary Sue Swann; Hannah, Keith, Luke, Rinat and Slopan Thompson; Joe and Linda Fisher Thornton; Carol Uzzle; Shannon Weis; Sarah Whitmore; Beth Wright; and Reveille's facilities manager, Bill Wright.
Many Reveille folks donated cardboard, funds and other items and prayed for our campers, counselors and ministry throughout the week. In addition, outreach opportunities for day campers were made possible by the following: Jacqueline Paris-Pugh, Society of St. Andrew and Red Rake Farm; Sandra Stanley of All God's Children Camp; Cheryl Johnson, Mrs. Sweet, and others from Swansboro Elementary School; Dominic Barrett and Steve Miles of Shalom Farm; and Shawnee and Camille Hanson of Richmond Friends of the Homeless. Thanks to all!

Reveille softball team ends regular season
with solid play
On August 2, Reveille played its final two regular season softball games. The first game was against Richmond Ford, a team with only one loss. With the solid pitching of Bobby Bell and some amazing running catches in left field by Kevin Young, Reveille stayed in the game, allowing Richmond Ford to take only a slim 2-0 lead after two innings.
In the top of the third, Andrew Minarik sparked the offense with a line drive triple to left center. Patsy Buelow followed with an RBI single. Shane Anderegg and Bell also contributed RBI singles of their own to give Reveille a 3-2 lead.
After Richmond Ford regained the lead 4-3, Reveille followed with another rally behind the clutch hitting of Irvin Smith, Anderegg and Young. With Reveille ahead 6-4, the stage was set for the exciting last inning. Bell's triple and Smith's RBI groundout gave Reveille a 7-4 lead as Richmond Ford came to plate with one last chance to pull out a victory. They quickly scored three runs to tie the game. Reveille preserved the tie for a moment when Bell tagged a runner at home plate for the first out. With runners still on base, Young dodged a telephone pole in left field to snag a fly ball for the second out. Anderegg ended the game and sealed the 7-7 tie by catching a routine infield fly at short.
In the second game, Reveille could not maintain its momentum against the Free Agents. Andrew Minarik's RBI double scoring Steve Knockemus proved to be their only run of the game. Dave Craven and Elizabeth Berry tried to spark the offense with some solid line drive hits but Reveille lost 9-1. With the regular season finished, Reveille looks to finish strong with the season ending tournament.
