TopYouth Choir presents: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

Our youth choir has worked very hard on Andrew Lloyd Weber's Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat since January. JosephOpportunities to see this outstanding performance at Reveille will be on Wednesday and Thursday, July 6 and 7, at 7:00 p.m. Please join us for ice cream in the fellowship hall after our July 7 performance.

There are many different versions and lengths of this famous musical, including a full Broadway score. Ours is about an hour in length. See Joseph, his brothers and their wives, Pharoah, Potiphar and his wife, adoring girls, dancing girls, the butler, the baker, the wonderful choir - even a goat. And of course Jacob, the dad, who started all of this.

After our Richmond performances we will take this show on the road to New York City, where we will also be in mission with Youth Opportunity Service Projects.

We covet your prayers as seventy-two of us deliver God's message through our music and with our hands.

Big Apple, Here We Come!

In a room smaller than room 211 here at Reveille, The Community Kitchen and Food Pantry in West Harlem, New York serves dinner to 3,000 people daily. In the basement, shelves hold staple groceries like whole wheat pasta and canned vegetables, often with fresh options available. The Community Kitchen is only one of several agencies Reveille's youth will serve during their trip to New York City.Statue of Liberty

On July 9, 60 youth and 12 adults head to New York City by Amtrak train. A stop in Wilmington, Delaware that night will provide the youth choir a chance to perform Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at Grace United Methodist Church, before the group arrives in The Big Apple. Over the week, youth will serve in a variety of homeless agencies across the city preparing meals, stocking pantries and warehouses, and delivering meals for Meals on Wheels. The youth will see a side of homelessness that Richmond cannot provide. The youth choir will be performing Joseph in New York as well, at Park Avenue United Methodist Church. It will be a full week.

Please keep the team in your prayers as they prepare for this important mission. The team will be commissioned on July 3 at the 11:00 a.m. worship service. Thank you for the many prayers and support you, Reveille's congregation, have provided to enable this trip to take place.

Construction News: What's going on in the hole?

Have you noticed the gigantic hole in the middle of the construction site? Check out some pictures of this work here. This critical work is preparation for the stormwater detention system and piping. The stormwater detention system is required by the city of Richmond for the purpose of regulating the water flow into the city system during and after a heavy rainstorm. Concrete footings are being poured for the foundation, and once the footings are set cinder block walls will start to go up. Most of the block work will be done in July. Above-ground structures will begin to take shape in July, and steel to support the roof will be erected in August.

Other projects include getting the basement of the sanctuary prepared for a new electrical switchboard and conversion of the chapel into a new music room. The chapel renovation is well underway with removal of all the pews, railings, musical instruments, and furniture from the chapel. Fixtures have been removed, as well as the carpet.

A gas line is scheduled to be run from North Ashlawn Drive through the main parking lot driveway into Reveille House and the new building in August. Hopefully, little parking and traffic flow will be affected. Updates will continue to be publicized through this newsletter and the website.

Ways You Can Support VBS and Day Camp

Vacation Bible School and Day Camp will be here before we know it! The dates are July 25-29. Our leaders are asking for the following items:VBS 2011 logo
  • The craft center needs paper towel rolls, food magazines.
  • The Bible storyteller needs a chimenea (a small, rustic outdoor fireplace), clay dishes, jugs and other items that might be found in a Biblical kitchen.
  • Actors are needed to be an Israelite woman, Jesus, Peter, townspeople, and disciples. The role of disciple is an easy role, as you will simply be acting out the Passover meal silently.
  • Day camp needs empty food boxes (such as cereal, crackers, granola bars, etc.) for a recycling project. Broken down boxes are fine.
Please leave the VBS and Day Camp craft items in the bright blue plastic totes by the elevator near the choir room or the other elevator near the fellowship hall.

E-mail Lili Boyd or call her at 763-5655 if you can help with the items needed for the storyteller or are interested in being an actor.

Help encourage co-ed softball team

to a winning season

In spite of scoring nine runs in each game of a doubleheader on a very hot June 21, our co-ed softball team remains winless.

In the first game, we played our fellow United Methodists from Trinity, and even though Softballwe allowed them to jump out to a 4-1 lead in the first inning, we were tied after two innings. We took the lead in the third inning and held it until the bottom of the fifth. It took all sorts of heroics for that. Dean Jarrett hit a ball over their outfielders, which could well have been a homerun, except that halfway to second base his quadricep muscle snapped, and he crawled safely into second. Irvin Davis went in to pinch run for Dean and scored two plays later. Will Jarrett hit one past the outfielders, and his legs carried him around the bases for a homerun. Will also caught a pop fly bare-handed and then completed a double play with Janet Sims. Kevin Orsi's daredevil running turned what probably would have been a double into a triple and then he scored on a sacrifice fly by Martha Hodges.

Going into the bottom of the fifth inning Reveille was up 9-6, but the Trinity bats came alive, and Trinity won 10-9. These two United Methodist teams will square off again for a double header at Byrd Middle School on July 12.

In the second game on June 21, Reveille faced the Free Agents, and even though we scored seven runs in the third inning, the Free Agents won 15-9. The second game also featured a double play executed by Will Jarrett, Janet Sims, and Stephen Coleman.
Cheer
Come out to Byrd on July 12 to watch the big Reveille-Trinity doubleheader. Fans of all ages, especially vocal ones, are always welcome.
