Handbell Workshop at UMFS

HandbellThe Reveille Ringers and Reveille Ensemble are taking their handbell ministry on the road by holding a workshop for the youth at United Methodist Family Services (UMFS) this Monday, May 2. These groups performed for UMFS at Christmas, and the youth were so intrigued that they wanted the Reveille musicians to return to teach them how to play.  It is exciting to be able to share God's music in this way.

2011 Mission Benefit Concert

Each year, talented musicians and vocalists present the Mission Benefit Concert as a fundraiser for a worthy cause. The benefactor of this year's concert is United Methodist Mission Benefit ConcertFamily Services (UMFS), which provides a network of services to at-risk children and families. You are invited to experience this concert on Sunday, May 22 at 7:00 p.m. in our sanctuary.

The Reveille Ringers and Reveille Ensemble will begin the program. Then forty-five voices will sing Maurice Durufle's Requiem accompanied by chamber orchestra, harp and organ, conducted by Dr. Charles Staples, Director of Music at Trinity United Methodist Church. Performances of this exquisite but difficult masterwork are rare; do not miss this opportunity.

Following the concert, you are invited to attend a reception in the fellowship hall catered by our own Tommy Threewitts.

Your donation will be much appreciated by United Methodist Family Services. You may donate online here or may pick up a donation form in the church office or narthex of the church.

Help a child go to camp at Westview-on-the-James

This summer will be the fifth year Reveille has sent 20 inner-city children from the Swansboro community to a week of carefree fun and adventure at Westview on the James.  Often, these children do not have experiences outside of their own neighborhood. Westview offers a safe and nurturing environment to develop new skills Child at campand build new relationships, enjoy the outdoors and participate in activities that may lead to a closer relationship with God.

The children are selected by the school based on financial need, demonstrated good citizenship in school and a desire to participate at camp. This year our campers will attend Westview the week of June 26 - July 1. Help is needed in meeting the parents at the school and completing the paperwork, as well as arranging transportation to and from Westview.

On Sunday afternoon, June 26, we will meet the children at Swansboro Elementary, caravan out to Westview and get them settled in.  On Friday evening, July 1, we will pick them up at Westview and return to Swansboro, where the children's families will be waiting for them. This is a wonderful opportunity to share God's love in building new relationships; please consider how you may help with this ministry.  You may impact a child's life and help to create memories that will last forever.

We are still receiving donations to cover the cost of camp for 20 children; we are only $800 short of our goal.  Help us reach the goal by making a contribution today. Please note in the memo section of your check Westview and put it in the offering plate or mail it to the church office.  You can make a difference in the life of an underprivileged child.

For more information e-mail Rhonda Geisel or call her at 539-8893, or e-mail Ellie Speer or call her at 282-4919.

How to write and submit an article for The Reveille Window or the website

  • When writing an article for publication, please be sure to include answers to the following questions: Who? What? When? Where? Why? and How?
  • Include deadlines, costs, and contact person in case the reader wants more information.
  • Include an e-mail contact, if you wish, but remember that not all church members and friends use e-mail. A phone contact should also be included for use in the newsletter. That can be the staff person associated with your group, if he/she has approved that.
  • Articles for the website are to be approved by the appropriate staff person for your committee, class or group before publication. If you don't know who that is, please call the church office for help. Please factor in sufficient time before the deadline to allow the staff person to review the article, noting that the program staff is in the office Monday through Thursday.
  • Deadlines for The Window are printed in both the newsletter calendar and the Sunday bulletin calendar, and early deadlines are publicized in both publications two weeks in advance.
  • For those not using e-mail or without a computer, typed or handwritten articles may be submitted.
  • When submitting your article for publication, please indicate the specific issue date or dates it is for. Consider how the text should be changed if it is to be printed more than once.

For more information, e-mail Cheryl Arrington or call her at 359-6041, ext. 114.
