TopCelebrate our United Methodist Women this Sunday

Our annual celebration of the United Methodist Women (UMW) at Reveille gives us an opportunity to share the purpose and mission focus of the UMW with other church members.  This Sunday, at our 8:30 and 11:00 a.m. worship services, Associate Pastor Abby Kocher will be preaching, and at The Point worship service at 9:30 a.m. our own Meghan Roth will give the message. Meghan currently is a student at Wesley Theological Seminary and is a certified candidate for the ordained ministry. Reveille has endorsed Meghan's call to ministry.

UMW members will be wearing name tags identifying their circle and the year they joined the UMW. Many of our women have over 40 years of service in this mission-driven group.

UMW members Betty Allen and Donna Fay Kessel will tell you about their roles in this unit through the mission moment at all three services. Many of our other members will greet you as you enter the worship space and will also participate in the serving of holy communion.

We look forward to this worship experience each year as we celebrate our focus of helping women and children through our work for local and global missions.

Today we begin a new feature of The Reveille Window. In nearly every issue, we will include a report of the coming week's construction news. Following is our first installment.

Hard hat Construction will begin soon

Excitement is in the air in anticipation that construction of our new chapel, youth space, welcome center, and choir space will begin soon. If you missed the groundbreaking on March 20, see the slide show of the event here and Mark Ritter's video of the groundbreaking here.

Upcoming changes

PARKING: Beginning Monday, April 11, the drive to the circle will be closed off, which requires relocating our handicapped parking spaces. The driveway and back parking lot will remain open. The 19 parking spaces along the drive to the back lot will be marked for handicapped parking. Persons using those spaces may enter the building through the weekday school door, which provides accessibility to the entire church building.

If you are able, please consider parking across Cary Street during the construction period. On April 24, Easter Sunday, we plan to have a police officer assisting pedestrians crossing to the church from the Windsor Farms side of Cary Street Road and then back again.

CHAPEL CLOSING: The 8:30 worship service will move to the sanctuary on April 17. All 8:30 services will be held in the sanctuary until the new chapel is completed.

BELL TOWER MOVING: We are happy that the bell tower will be preserved. During construction, it will be moved to a safe area until it is placed in its new permanent location.

We will keep you updated as changes occur during the construction period.

Africa: On average, every three seconds a child dies in Africa.  Many African nations have a recent history of bloody civil war, abusive colonial rule, and racial discord.  Reveille hopes to make a difference - at least in one community in Sierra Leone.  On Sunday, Pastor Jim Noland will join us for youth group to share about his recent trip to Bo, Sierra Leone, where the United Methodist Church supports an orphanage and hopes Youth Group News 65%to address other needs.

Our schedule is

4:30 p.m. - middle school youth group/high school choir

5:30 p.m. - dinner ($3)

6:00 p.m. - high school youth group/middle school choir.

Start your day with the Bible. On Wednesday mornings during Lent, a small group of youth is meeting at Einstein Brothers Bagels (Gayton Crossing location) at 7:00 a.m. to learn more about the Bible and how the Bible can influence our lives. Feel free to join the group any morning you are available.

We are collecting goodies for

college student care packages

When you are away in school excitement and joy come with the arrival of a package. Won't you help to spread the joy by providing items for care packages to be sent to Care packagescollege students this spring? With the help of our congregation, the college ministry team would like to put together care packages for every Reveille college student as a reminder of the care and support of our church. Stop by the bulletin board across from the choir room or check out the display board in the fellowship hall for more information and to see what you can contribute.

Please bring contributions to church by Sunday, April 17 and place them in the College Care Packages container in the fellowship hall or in the alcove across from the choir room.  If you would like to help assemble care packages or if you have questions, please contact Amy Donald at 741-5355.

Lent and Easter outreach offering

Our 2011 Lenten outreach offering will be shared between two worthy causes. It will provide much-needed funding for Richmond Friends of the Homeless, the feeding program Reveille supports, and also for the One Great Hour of Sharing offering.

Each month, Reveille members participate in the preparation of cheesy potato Lent-Easter Offeringcasseroles and also serve a hot meal to those less fortunate who gather at the Greater Mt. Moriah Baptist Church feeding site. This worthy program nearly ended late last year due to a lack of funding.

The One Great Hour of Sharing offering provides for the administrative costs of United Methodist Committee On Relief (UMCOR) so that 100% of the donations you give to special offerings for disaster relief (such as for the recent disaster in the Pacific) will be used just for relief efforts and not for administrative costs.

Donations to this offering may be in any amount. If you would like to have your donation acknowledged in the Easter printout of these gifts, be sure to complete a yellow order form or print one here and return it with your check or cash no later than Wednesday, April 13.

Youth choir preparing musical

for summer mission trip

This summer, the Reveille Youth Choir will present its most well-known musical yet: a junior version of the Broadway hit, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. YouthDetailing the familiar story of Joseph, one of Jacob's many sons, the musical is set in ancient times in the land of Canaan.  If you think you know the story of Joseph, prepare to think again.

In this adapted version, the Pharaoh is an Elvis impersonator, and one of the brothers is actually a girl. Anyone who has seen a Reveille show before will not be surprised to hear that Chris Cantone and Lee Gray have taken on the main roles as Joseph, but what may be surprising are the roles chosen by David Bogaev, Harvey Creasey, and Doug Thompson, newcomers to the musical scene.

Whether you're a hardened fan of Reveille productions or a newcomer, this production of Joseph will not disappoint. The home performances will be on July 6 and 7, and the trip to New York will begin July 9.  A youth auction will take place on April 27 to raise money for the trip, so feel free to come and help us as we spread God's word in song to the people of New York.
