Top  Stewardship campaign to culminate

on Consecration Sunday

Pledge cards can be turned in during Sunday's services

The Sharing the Love of Christ stewardship campaign for Reveille's 2011 operating budget culminates this week with Consecration Sunday on November 21, when we will have the opportunity to bring pledge cards forward during worship services. Reveille members and friends who will be away this Sunday can place their pledge cards in the offering plates in the following weeks or mail them to the church office.

The focus of this brief campaign has been to emphasize the importance of a pledge to Reveille's planning efforts. Pledges allow the church to build a budget more accurately and responsibly and to plan to meet the needs of the congregation more effectively. Reveille has many faithful stewards who currently are giving without a pledge; please consider converting your giving into a pledge for 2011.

The Sharing the Love of Christ campaign also aims to broaden the church's base of support. We want to grow our number of pledges and involve everyone in supporting Reveille's ministries, programs and day-to-day operations. We believe that a goal of 400 pledges can be reached in this campaign.

In 2010 our giving has supported Reveille's diversity of ministries and activities, such as the Honduras Mission Trip; home visitation and the Stephen Ministry; "Milestones for a Growing Faith" and children's Sunday school; three worship services each Sunday, as well as special Advent and Lent services; the Chancel Choir, CrossPoint praise band, Reveille Ringers, youth and children's choirs and other music ministry activities; Swansboro School project; four circles of the United Methodist Women, the Men's Prayer Breakfast and Leisure Club; Wonderful Wednesday dinners; ministry to the homeless, including CARITAS and the bag-lunch feeding program; snow removal during the Blizzard of 2010; air conditioning and heat; the salaries of our outstanding pastors and staff; and more.

Which of these ministries touched you and your family this year? Thank you for considering your pledge for 2011, and for your commitment to Reveille Church.

Children and Worship Class participants to receive hymnals

This fall twenty first graders participated in the Children and Worship class. Thanks to our wonderful team of teachers and help from parents, the children learned why we do what we do in worship. They met with worship leaders, explored the sanctuary, learned about the elements of worship and learned how to read a hymnal.  During the 11:00 worship service this Sunday, November 21, we will recognize the children of the Children and Worship class, and each will receive a United Methodist hymnal.  We are grateful to Kim Hicks, Angela Elliott, Kim McCanna and Susanna and Robert Ferguson, who led the class.

Bag Lunches for Richmond Friends of the Homeless

Sunday, November 21

Friends of the Homeless

It is hard for us to realize what it is like to wonder if we will have something to eat.  Each month, our third through fifth graders prepare 160 bag lunches during coffee fellowship at 10:30 on the Sunday before the fourth Monday.  The children and their parents bring food for the lunches and invite the whole church to join them to make sandwiches and bag the lunches.  No matter what our age, a small act of kindness gets us thinking about the needs of others. Come join the children this Sunday in the fellowship hall.

Don't miss the UMW Thanksgiving bake sale

Bake sale 2Stop by our tables early on Sunday morning, November 21 to buy your goodies for Thanksgiving week for your family and friends to enjoy.  We will be in the main hallway across from the choir room and in the fellowship hall. Choose from delicious breads, cookies, cakes, and pumpkin pies. Reveille ornaments and pecans also will be available for purchase.  All proceeds from the sale will benefit UMW missions such as United Methodist Family Services, All God's Children Camp, Covenant Woods and The Hermitage.  Please call Walker Fonville at 285-7306 for more information.

Youth Group News 65%This Sunday night, November 21, youth group and youth choir will be combined.

Our schedule is as follows:

4:30 p.m.  Combined youth choir

5:30 p.m.  Dinner ($3)

Please remember Tatiana and Jose.  We committed to support these children and so far this year, we have raised $456.48 of our $720 commitment.  If everyone gives just $2 per month, we will have more than enough to meet our pledge, so please bring your donations.

Youth group will not meet Sunday, November 28.  Combined youth choir will meet at 4:30 p.m., but there will be no dinner following.

No Wonderful Wednesday this week

There will be no Wonderful Wednesday dinner on November 24.

Join us again on December 1, when the program will be making Advent wreaths. Our menu will be spaghetti with meat sauce, garlic bread, Italian salad, cannoli and fruit.

Can you help with children's Sunday school needs?

We need help in supporting our ministry with children in Sunday school in the following ways:

One of the best gifts we give our teachers is separating the curriculum for them.  We currently have four Reveille members who once every three months prepare the curriculum, but we need four more.  This task involves separating the story papers and stickers for each week.  If you are interested in helping, please contact Carol Uzzle, Minister for Teaching and Learning at discipleship@reveilleumc.org or 359-6041, ext 117.

Do you have old Christmas cards you would like to recycle? Our Sunday school teachers need cards with pictures related to the birth of Jesus - the holy family, shepherds, angels and wise men.  We also need toilet tissue rolls to be used for crafts.  There will be a container by the elevator near the sanctuary and one in the fellowship hall for you to put your old card donations.

Glorious Gifts and Reveille's outreach projects

Sierra Leone Mission Trip and Friends of Barnabas Honduras Medical Mission Trip

In the summer of 2011 Reveille members will participate as part of a team working in the Child Rescue Centre (CRC) in Sierra Leone.  Created ten years ago to rescue children who were orphaned by the civil war in Sierra Leone, the CRC currently has 59 children who are housed, fed, and educated in a caring Christian environment. The CRC also supports 154 children in the area through their foster care and child support program. Mercy Hospital, located adjacent to the CRC, addresses the needs of these children and of some 10,000 patients a year from the town of Bo and surrounding communities.

Through partnership with the Friends of Barnabas Foundation, the Reveille congregation will coordinate and equip a team of volunteers to provide medical, eye care and preventive care to the impoverished people of the rural mountains of Honduras, Central America in July, 2011. Teams travel to the most remote villages where there is no electricity or clean water.  We share Christ's love through touch, prayer and servanthood.  Our hearts, souls and life journeys are transformed by the opportunity to serve.

The Sierra Leone mission trip and Friends of Barnabas Honduras medical mission trip are two of Reveille's outreach projects that are participating in Glorious Gifts in December. Our goal is to raise $15,000 for the Sierra Leone mission trip and $34,600 for the Honduras medical mission trip through Glorious Gifts. This is the main fundraiser for these projects.

2011 flower calendar opens December 1

For those wishing to place flowers on the sanctuary altar, chapel altar or in the narthex on a Sunday, the calendar will open on December 1. You may call Cheryl Arrington at 359-6041, ext. 114 to sign-up on or after that date.  In fairness to everyone, no reservations will be taken before December 1. Requests left on voice mail will be honored in the order in which they arrived, as will orders received during business hours. The cost for flowers is $32.95.

In 2011, we will not display flowers during the Lenten season (March 13 through April 17), but instead will have displays of greens prepared by our talented Liturgical Arts Committee (formerly the Special Occasion Decorating Committee).

Christmas Missions Recognition and Poinsettia Orders

Watch next week for order forms for our annual Christmas Missions Recognition and Christmas poinsettias.  The beneficiary of this year's missions offering will be United Methodist Family Services, which provides various types of support for troubled children and families.
