All Saints

November 7

As we think about our journey of faith, most likely, all can recall a grandparent, parent, teacher, theologian or friend who inspired us to seek and know God.  A saint is not necessarily one who is perfect. True saints are those who inspire others to walk in faith, and it is right that we remember and honor them.

As a way to remember and honor the saints of our lives, on Sunday November 7, we will carry bell banners into the chapel and sanctuary and read the names of all Reveille members who have died in the past year.

The bell banners are now located in the hallway leading to the sanctuary.  Before the services on the 7th, please place a bell on the banner in honor of the saints in your life.  It is in our remembering and honoring that we give thanks to God for these people and their gifts, as well as keep their memory alive.

2011 Honduras Mission Trip Information

Mission TripHave you ever thought about ministering to people in a third world country? If you feel called to participate with a medical mission team going to Honduras next July, come to a brief informational meeting to find out more.  Spanish-speaking and medical skills are helpful but not required. This information session will be held in the Reveille House parlor this Sunday, November 7, at 10:30 a.m., following The Point.

If you have questions, please contact Mary Kay Jarrett at jarrettfam@comcast.net or 285-8888, or Al Rogers at ahrog@aol.com or 314-2617.

Sierra Leone Mission Trip Information

There will be an information meeting this Sunday, November 7, for those interested in participating in next summer's mission trip to the Child Rescue Center in Sierra Leone.  The meeting will be held in the Reveille House dining room immediately after the 11:00 a.m. worship service.

Mission Trip

The Child Rescue Center was created in 2000 to address the needs of children orphaned in the brutal Blood Diamond Civil War that ravaged the country for 11 years.  Resident children are cared for in a safe, Christian environment.

Team members for the summer mission trips teach English, basic math, science, geography, and life and computer skills  in a relaxed and individualized environment; however, a variety of skills are needed, so even if you have never taught but possess a loving desire to help some of the most destitute people on Earth, your participation is encouraged.

Susan Custer, who is the UMVIM Chair of the African Programs Partnership, will be in attendance to answer any questions that those interested in Reveille's team may have.  Hope to see you there!

Let's Make Chrismons!

Chrismons are handmade Christmas tree ornaments using traditional symbols of Christianity.  The name Chrismon comes from a combination of CHRISt and MONogram.

ChrismonsSome of Reveille's Chrismons are falling apart and need to be replaced. The Wednesday morning ladies' Bible study group invites you to join them to make Chrismons on the Wednesdays in November and early December from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. in room 210.  The newly-created Chrismons will be used on our sanctuary Christmas tree. Please contact Carol Uzzle (359-6041, ext. 117 or cuzzle@reveilleumc.org) or Mary Anne Noland (673-1041), if you are interested.  Child care will be provided, but please let Carol Uzzle know in advance.

If you are unable to come on Wednesday mornings, we hope you will come to the Wonderful Wednesdays on November 10 and 17 when we will also be learning about and making Chrismons.  The Wednesday night workshops will be from 6:45 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall.

Wonderful Wednesday

On November 10, our program will be learning about and making Chrismons.  (See article above.)  Our menu will be baked pork chops, new potatoes, yeast rolls, salad, peach cobbler and fruit. Children and Worship Family Night

The first graders and their parents are invited to Children and Worship family night at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 14 for a fun-filled time of learning about worship together. A light meal will be served.  Child care will be provided for younger siblings and those who are participating in the children's choirs.

Are You Looking for a Way to Connect

and Grow in Faith?

If this question elicits an immediate "yes" or has caused you to think about how you can deepen your faith, we invite you to participate in a small group.  Small groups are designed to be...

- A place for people to be intentional about both exploring the Christian faith and being on a path of spiritual growth.

- A place where we are able to know each other and share our faith stories

- A place for new people to plug into our church family

- A place to ask questions about our faith as well as verbalize what we are learning

Each small group is composed of 12 to 15 members who form a covenant, an agreement.  A typical small group will commit to study together, to pray and care for each other, and to serve.

Small groups are forming.  We invite you to become a member of a small group.  If you are interested in being a member of a small group that would meet during the week at the church or a group that would meet in homes in the Mechanicsville area, please contact one of the following;

      - Burdette Robinson, Small Group Coordinator, at mbrobinson777@gmail.com

- Keith Thompson, Teaching and Learning chair at kotophoto@comcast.net

- Carol Uzzle, Minister for Teaching and Learning at discipleship@reveilleumc.org, or 359-6041, ext. 117.

Christmas Concert Opportunity: Sing with Us

Do you like Christmas music?  Do you enjoy singing but do not have the time to commit to nine months of rehearsals?  If so, we have just the opportunity for you: come to choir on Thursday nights, beginning November 4, at 8:00 p.m. for only six rehearsals, then sing in the Christmas concert on Sunday, December 19 at 5:30 p.m.  The Chancel Choir is preparing Ralph Vaughan Williams' Fantasia on Christmas Carols, which will be accompanied by orchestra and organ.  The Chancel Choir also will perform several other Christmas carols, which you will enjoy learning. Come, join in the fun!  Please contact Cathy Armistead at 359-6041, ext. 123, or e-mail cathya@reveilleumc.org. Do it today - it could be the best thing you do this Christmas.

Reflection on Were You There

On October 16, Reveille hosted the Central Virginia Arts Mission's production of Were You There, a biblical drama telling the story of the passion, mercy, power, and love of Jesus Christ.  Involving Richmond area churches, local students, actors, and musicians, as well of guests from around the nation, this event was presented as a benefit to aid relief efforts in Haiti. Led by Robert (Buddy) Phanord II with the support of Reveille's own Cathy Armistead, our event raised an initial $5,700, with funds still pouring in.  In addition, some in attendance, inspired by our efforts, returned to their home churches and appealed there for additional help. One church from the Lynchburg area has since raised an additional $1,000 for the recovery in Haiti.  All in attendance and all involved remain richly blessed.  Thank you, Reveille, for your part in making this mission benefit a success.
