Stop Hunger Now
Many thanks to the Reveille community for your overwhelming response to volunteer to package 10,000 meals for Stop Hunger Now. Your generosity raised the needed $2500 to prepare those meals. The response was so great for volunteers that we have enough people to prepare 20,000 meals and we have the physical space to do it. The Outreach Committee would like to make 20,000 meals a reality, but we will need an additional $2500. We are a blessed congregation. At 25¢ meal, this is a real bargain. Please prayerfully consider helping Reveille double its goal and put all of our volunteers to work.
If you would like to make a donation, please make your check payable to Reveille UMC and write in the memo section, Stop Hunger Now. Your donation may be put in the offering plate on Sunday or mailed to the church office.

One Stitch at a Time
During the 11:00 worship service this Sunday, October 24, we will dedicate two bishops' chairs, lovingly stitched by several dedicated needlepoint artists.
When an artist starts thinking about a design, she thinks of the story the design will tell. That's what happened in the designing and making of the tapestry for the bishops' chairs, located on either side of the altar. Over the past four years a number of the "church ladies" have patiently (and not so patiently at times) worked on this project - the history of Reveille United Methodist Church in needlepoint.
Reveille is a church with 167 years of continuous service. In 1843, Union Station Methodist Church was founded. In 1888, Monument Methodist Church was formed. In 1951, the Monument Church building was destroyed by fire. Two years later, in 1953, the Union Station and Monument congregations merged and became Reveille Methodist Church. The first service in Reveille's sanctuary was held on October 31, 1954.
From Reveille United Methodist Church three pastors have been elected bishop: Kern Eutsler, Hasbrouck Hughes, and Ray Chamberlain. This history is recorded in the three bishops' shields at the bottom of the back of the chairs. The designs of these chairs are both traditional and modern, signifying both our traditions and our ministry in today's world. On each chair, the design is slightly different - two different crosses, two different congregations, in the flames, the explosion, the destruction of the window above the altar. The seats are representative of the gas furnace explosion that destroyed the nave of the church and the window above on December 19, 1963.
Special thanks go to Stacy Fonville, Melinda Shepardson, Elaine Bugg, Patsy Morrissette and Mary Anne Noland for the many hours of labor involved in completing this project. There are approximately one half million stitches in these two chairs created by these ladies. One half million, one stitch at a time. Thanks, Stacy, Melinda, Elaine, Patsy and Mary Anne.

2011 Honduras Mission Trip Information Meetings
Have you ever thought about ministering to people in a third world country? If you feel called to participate with a medical mission team going to Honduras next July, come to a brief informational meeting to find out more. Spanish speaking and medical skills are helpful but not required. Two information sessions will be held, both in the Reveille House parlor: this Sunday, October 24, following the 11:00 service, and Sunday, November 7, following The Point.
If you have questions and are unable to attend either meeting, please contact Mary Kay Jarrett at jarrettfam@comcast.net or 285-8888, or Al Rogers at ahrog@aol.com or 314-2617.

Serving is as much about attitude as performance. Sunday night we will learn about some opportunities to serve, whether providing wells for African communities or providing food for the hungry in the US. We will also do some serving, as well.
Our schedule is as follows:
4:30 p.m. Middle school youth group/high school choir
5:30 p.m. Dinner ($3)
6:00 p.m. High school youth group/middle school choir
With serving in mind, remember that we sponsor two children, Tatiana and Jose, and that they depend on us for education, medical care and support. Your $2/month goes a long way towards improving their lives.
Next Sunday, Halloween night, the youth will attend our annual hayride from 5:30-9:00 p.m. We will visit Creepy Hollow Hayride, with the option of walking through the woods or taking the hayride. This is scary for some, so if you scare easily, use your judgment about attending. Sign up at youth group or by e-mailing Dwayne at Dwayne@reveilleumc.org. The cost is $14 cash. Please bring your cash payment on October 31.

Bag Lunches this Sunday
We hope you will plan to lend a hand to help prepare sandwiches and bag lunches at 10:30 a.m. this Sunday, October 24, in the fellowship hall. The lunches will be distributed on Monday morning to the Richmond Friends of the Homeless Greater Mt. Moriah feeding site. This is an outreach project of the third through fifth graders of Reveille. Contact Jennifer Huneycutt at huneycutts98@yahoo.com to contribute food.
Hot Meal Preparation Suspended
Many people here at Reveille have supported the Richmond Friends of the Homeless mission with their time and contributions of food and money over the years. Now, please support them with your prayers. Their grants and donations have fallen off in this economic downturn. In order to try to make ends meet, they are curtailing hot meals served at Greater Mt. Moriah Baptist Church to Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. This leaves us without the opportunity to serve the needy a hot meal the fourth Thursday of the month. We hope this is only a temporary situation. We will continue to make and deliver the bag lunches. We are also exploring any other means of helping. If you would like more information, please contact Joanna Tilley at sandjtilley@comcast.net or 556-5935, Kay Craven at cravendk@aol.com or 270-0686 or Mary Jane Walls at mjwalls@verizon.net or 355-4479.

Stewardship Campaign Will Focus on
"Sharing the Love of Christ"
Reveille will soon embark on "Sharing the Love of Christ," a new pledge campaign to fund the church's 2011 operating budget. Through our stewardship - the commitment of our time, talents and gifts in service to each other, to our church, to our community and to God's kingdom - we strive to share Christ's love each day.
Each home will receive two mailings in November regarding the campaign, which also will feature ministry moment speakers at worship services on November 7 and 14. The campaign will culminate on Consecration Sunday, November 21, when we will have the opportunity to bring our pledge cards to the altar as part of the worship services.
The operating budget pays for the day-to-day activities of the church - everything from the candles and bulletins used in worship services to the oil and electricity that heats and cools our buildings to the salaries of our pastors and staff.
The main source of funding for the operating budget is the Sunday offering, our pledged giving. Our annual giving accounted for about 70 percent of the operating budget this year. Our pledges allow church staff and committees to plan the budget more accurately and responsibly.
In the coming weeks, please prayerfully consider your pledge for the 2011 operating budget. And keep an eye on your mailbox and The Window for more information.

Stephen Ministry:
Ministry to Those Experiencing Grief
On October 24, our Stephen Minister trainees will focus on the concepts of grief and loss. They will learn about the types of grief people face, the stages and characteristics of grief and ways to minister to those facing grief and loss. The goal of our training is to teach our Stephen Ministers to turn others' grief journeys into new life and greater wholeness. Please continue to pray for our Stephen minister trainees. If you are dealing with a death of a loved one, a loss of job or a divorce, please contact Stephen Coleman (359-6041, scoleman@reveilleumc.org) to see if Stephen Ministry can help you find new life and wholeness.

It's Back!
Reveille UMC and the Outreach Committee are pleased to bring back Glorious Gifts this Christmas season! We are excited to be setting up a display at the mini Greek Festival on Thursday, November 11 through Saturday, November 13, and in doing so, we hope to raise awareness in the community about Reveille's outreach projects. Please encourage your friends and loved on es to stop by our display at the mini Greek Festival.
As always, folks will be invited to come "shop" at Reveille on Sunday, December 5 and Sunday, December 12, 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. All proceeds will go directly to Reveille's outreach projects. In the next few issues of The Window, our participating outreach projects will be highlighted. Currently, we are looking for volunteers to help us staff the display at the Greek Festival on November 11, 12 and 13. If you can help, please call Kay Craven at 270-0686.

Let's Make Chrismons!
The Wednesday morning women's Bible study group is finishing its study of Rosemary Trible's book. During the month of November and perhaps into December we will meet to work on Chrismons. Some of Reveille's Chrismons are falling apart and some need to be replaced. We would love for anyone interested to join us in this time of community and reflection as we approach the celebration of Christ's birth. We will meet on Wednesday mornings from 10-11:30am. Child care will be provided but please let Carol Uzzle know in advance. Please contact Carol Uzzle or Mary Anne Noland (673-1041) if you are interested.
