Small Group and Alpha Informational Meetings
This Sunday, October 17
If you would like to "jump start" your faith journey, explore the meaning of faith more fully, and get to know other members, we hope you will join us this Sunday, October 17 to learn about small groups and the Alpha study course in the fellowship hall following The Point at 10:45 a.m. or following the 11:00 worship service at 12:15 p.m.
Small groups center on disciples sharing their faith journey with a group of Christian friends with mutual encouragement and accountability. Involvement in a small group provides a wonderful avenue for spiritual growth and help in living out our commitments to love God with our hearts, to know God with our heads, and to serve God with our hands.
We each have our own questions that we ask of God and faith. Why do bad things happen to innocent people? Why did Jesus have to die? Alpha is another small group opportunity to explore these and other questions in a relaxed, friendly setting. If you feel that you have never really understood the basics of the Christian faith or just want a refresher with a chance to meet others, Alpha can help. Some have described this 10-week study as an "adult confirmation" experience.
Join us in the fellowship hall to learn more about both of these opportunities. Light refreshments will be served for this 30-minute meeting.

Benefit for Haiti
Last January, the tiny country of Haiti was devastated by an earthquake. The Haitian people are still recovering, and you have a twofold opportunity to help by giving a monetary donation, and/or attending an inspiring theatrical production, at the same time. On Saturday, October 16,Were You There, with libretto created by Robert J. Phanord, II, will be presented in Reveille's sanctuary at 7:00 p.m. This production, based on the Passion of Christ, will be offered by a large choir, comprised of singers from Richmond and the east coast, and will have orchestral accompaniment. The play will be done by 60 actors in full costume, and all will be directed by Robert J. Phanord, II. The choral selections will include works by Mozart, Faure, Rutter, Handel, Vierne, Vittoria and others, plus several compositions by Mr. Phanord. Donations may be made to: Central VA Arts Mission, which will in turn go to the Red Cross, Haiti division. Please join us for this unique and inspiring opportunity.

Stop Hunger Now
Many thanks to the Reveille community for your over-whelming response to volunteer to package 10,000 meals for Stop Hunger Now. Your generosity raised the needed $2500 to prepare those meals. The response was so great for volunteers that we have enough people to prepare 20,000 meals and we have the physical space to do it. The Outreach Committee would like to make 20,000 meals a reality, but we will need an additional $2500. We are a blessed congregation. At 25¢ meal, this is a real bargain. Please prayerfully consider helping Reveille double its goal and put all of our volunteers to work.
If you would like to make a donation, please make your check payable to Reveille UMC and write in the memo section, Stop Hunger Now. Your donation may be put in the offering plate on Sunday or mailed to the church office.

Teenagers are typecast by the culture. From Katy Perry's song "Teenage Dream" to movies like "Easy A," the world boxes teens into a mold. Sunday night, October 17, our youth group will evaluate some of these views to see if there is truth in them, and ultimately, whether we can break that mold.
Our schedule is as follows:
4:30 p.m. Middle school youth group/high school choir
5:30 p.m. Dinner ($3)
6:00 p.m. High school youth group/middle school choir
Four straight games of laser tag, followed by a night of games and movies - the fall lock-in - Friday, October 22 through Saturday, October 23, 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. The cost is $20/person, which you can pay ahead or bring that night. For more details, e-mail Dwayne Stinson at dwayne@reveilleumc.org.
Middle school youth: The fall retreat is November 12-14! The band will be Stereoreel and the speaker, back by popular demand, is Richmond's own Joe Torrence. The retreat includes worship, workshops, and small groups with 600 youth from around Virginia. If you plan to attend, please get a check for $115 (made out to Reveille) to Dwayne by this Sunday, October 17.
The youth hayride is Halloween night, October 31, from 5:30-9:00 p.m. Sign up at youth group or by e-mailing Dwayne. Cost information will be available in next week's Window.

Chancel Choir is Growing, but Needs More Tenors and Basses
The Chancel Choir is growing. These are the folks who are new or have returned in the past two years: Gerald Bullock, Olletta Cheatham, Christy Cornell, Jackie Crenshaw, Mary Evans, Maggie Farmer, BreAnn Jones, Susan Mudd, Victoria Nelson, Robert Phanord, II, Sue Sheaffer, Martha Shippee, and Kara Stover. Meredith McNeill will return soon from South Carolina. This is something to celebrate; however, we need more male voices. We have three basses and one tenor who are able to attend rehearsals on a regular basis, but we need several more. If you sing, please help us fill the choir loft on Sunday mornings and the choir room on Thursday nights. Contact Cathy Armistead, Director of Music Ministries, at cathya@reveilleumc.org or call 359-6041, ext.123.
