Benefit for Haiti Relief

Saturday, October 16

Last spring, the tiny country of Haiti was devastated by an earthquake, and the people are still recovering. Coming to Reveille soon is a twofold opportunity to help: Give a monetary donation and attend an inspiring theatrical production. On Saturday, October 16, Were You There?, with libretto created by Robert J. Phanord II, will be presented in the sanctuary at 7:00 p.m. This production, based on the Passion of Christ, will be offered by a large choir, comprised of singers from Richmond and the East Coast with orchestral accompaniment. The play will feature 60 actors in full costume, and all will be directed by Mr. Phanord.  The choral selections include works by Mozart, Faure, Rutter, Handel, Vierne, Vittoria and others, plus several compositions by Mr. Phanord.  Donation checks may be made to Central VA Arts Mission, which will in turn go to the Red Cross, Haiti division.  Please join us for this unique and inspiring opportunity.

Assertiveness: Relating Gently and Firmly

Assertiveness is a positive and constructive way of relating to other people that respects their needs, wants and rights as well as one's own needs, wants and rights.  It builds people up rather than tearing them down.  This session explores what it means to relate to people in assertive, passive, aggressive and passive-aggressive ways.  We will practice assertive responses and learn more about relating in a Christian way.

Chancel Choir is Growing, But Needs More Men

The Chancel Choir is growing. These are the folks who are new or have returned in the past two years: Gerald Bullock, Olletta Cheatham, Christy Cornell, Jackie Crenshaw, Mary Evans, Maggie Farmer, BreAnn Jones, Susan Mudd, Victoria Nelson, Robert Phanord, II, Sue Sheaffer, Martha Shippee, and Kara Stover.  Meredith McNeill will return soon from South Carolina.  This is something to celebrate; however, we need more male voices.  We have three basses and one tenor who are able to attend rehearsals on a somewhat regular basis, and now we are sharing one of those three basses with CrossPoint for rehearsals on Thursday nights.  Please come join us on Thursday nights at 7:00 p.m. in the choir room.

Accompanist Needed

A piano accompanist is needed for the Elementary Choir (grades 3-5) beginning in January 2011.  The requirements are keyboard ability, music reading skills, comfort playing in public, and willingness to follow the director and accompany 33 angelic voices, as well as the ability to attend rehearsals on Sundays from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. and be present for the Sundays that the Elementary Choir sings.  Our season will end in mid-April.  If you would like to help, please contact Cathy Armistead at cathya@reveilleumc.org or call 359-6041, ext. 123.
