Building Project Approved!
On Sunday, September 26, 2010, the proposed building plan and the associated financial plan were approved by a nearly unanimous vote of a duly called Church Conference presided over by the Reverend Dr. David Jarvis. This comes after several years of visioning and planning by the entire congregation, and it opens the door to a new phase of ministry for Reveille. Many people worked very hard to make this happen and thanks go to all.

Reveille Day
Sunday October 3, 10:30 a.m.
Combined worship service followed by lunch on the grounds
On the final Reveille Day Sunday, we will celebrate our ministries of nurture and congregational care. We'll recognize the many ministries that cross the generations of our congregation, including the Men's Prayer Breakfast, United Methodist Women, youth ministry, Leisure Club, Stephen Ministry, and Wonderful Wednesday. The Reverend Dr. Jim Noland will preach from Romans 12:2-13 in a sermon entitled "Transformed and Renewed." Please note that there is only one worship service this week at 10:30 a.m. in the sanctuary. We'll share communion as a church family and then join together in our Reveille Day meal.
A delicious lunch of chicken, potato salad and green beans will be provided. There will also be hot dogs and macaroni and cheese especially for children. We are counting on you to contribute dessert for Reveille Day; bring your favorite to share. Please bring your contribution to the outdoor tent beside the fellowship hall as you arrive for worship on Sunday. No reservation is needed and there is no cost for the meal. At each serving line we will have baskets to receive contributions for Stop Hunger Now, an organization which provides nutritious meals in places of poverty and emergency need around the world.
Thanks to all who are contributing their energy and ideas and creativity to make possible this wonderful day for Reveille as a church family.

World Communion Sunday
This Sunday, we will join Christians around the globe in celebrating World Communion Sunday. This event reminds us of the inclusive love of God revealed in Christ, who died on the cross for the sins of the whole world. In addition, it is a visible demonstration of the unity of Christians who, in their diversity, share "one Lord, one faith, and one baptism."

Chancel Choir is Growing, but Needs More Men
The Chancel Choir is growing. These are the folks who are new or have returned in the past two years: Gerald Bullock, Olletta Cheatham, Christy Cornell, Jackie Crenshaw, Mary Evans, Maggie Farmer, BreAnn Jones, Susan Mudd, Victoria Nelson, Robert Phanord, II, Sue Sheaffer, Martha Shippee, and Kara Stover. Meredith McNeill will return soon from South Carolina. This is something to celebrate; however, we need more male voices. We have three basses and one tenor who are able to attend rehearsals on a somewhat regular basis, and now we are sharing one of those three basses with CrossPoint for rehearsals on Thursday nights. Please come join us on Thursday nights at 7:00 p.m. in the choir room.

Come Learn about Small Group Ministries for a Growing Faith
and Alpha
Sunday, October 17
Mark your calendar for Sunday, October 17, for two opportunities to learn about Alpha and small groups at Reveille. Following The Point (9:30 service) or the 11:00 worship service, come to the fellowship hall for one of these sessions.
Alpha is a ten-week class open to everyone who is interested in discovering what Christianity is all about. Some participants may be new to the faith while others will want to examine their beliefs and questions in a supportive atmosphere. Involvement in a small group provides the best avenue for spiritual growth and living out our commitments to love God with our hearts, to know God with our heads, and to serve God with our hands. The purpose of a small group is to lead members to Christian maturity in the context of authentic community.
If you would like to know more or have questions, please contact Burdette Robinson, Small Group Coordinator, at mbrobinson777@gmail.com, Keith Thompson, Teaching and Learning Chair at kotophoto@comcast.net or Carol Uzzle, Minister for Teaching and Learning at discipleship@reveilleumc.org or 359-6041, ext. 117.

The Bible from Scratch
Many of us grew up hearing the wonderful stories from the Bible but know just the story. As an adult you have not examined why that story is important and how it fits into the whole. The Bible from Scratch class will help you see the whole picture of the Old Testament. The study will meet for seven weeks on Sunday evenings at 5:00 p.m. The class is an overview of the Old Testament that will include becoming familiar with the history of the Hebrew people, an examination of individual books, biblical characters and the biblical themes. Child care will be provided. If you have questions or would like more information, contact Carol Uzzle, Minister for Teaching and Learning, at discipleship@reveilleumc.org or 359-6041, ext. 117.

Stephen Ministry Training Update
Our recent Stephen Ministry retreat began the 50 hours of training for our new Stephen Ministers, who are Stuart Blain, Skip Bottom, David Daniel, Rhonda Geisel, Catherine Ritter and John Salmon. They were joined in the retreat by our experienced and trained Stephen Ministers. Gathered together and surrounded by the beauty and peace of the Roslyn retreat center, we talked about listening, feelings, and confidentiality. It was a time of learning, joy, and fellowship with God and one another.
This Sunday, October 3, we will continue our training with the topic Process versus Results in Caregiving. Stephen Ministers are trained not to give advice or solve problems. Instead, we try to encourage, support and walk with people on their journey. During this session, we will learn to recognize the difference between these two ways of caring.

I have a friend who adopted a motto: "Passion and purpose." On Sunday night, October 3, we're going to figure out what our youth group's passion is, so we can find a purpose. Come ready to get fired up about being a Christian.
Our schedule is as follows:
4:30 p.m. Middle school youth group/high school choir
5:30 p.m. Dinner ($3)
6:00 p.m. High school youth group/middle school choir
Save the date! We will have a lock-in Friday, October 22 through Saturday, October 23, 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. One of our goals is to raise money for Water Harvest International, which digs wells for villages in Africa. More details will be coming soon.

Were You There?
Were You There? is a theatrical production, which includes libretto by Robert J. Phanord, II based on the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus the Christ. Music by the masters, including Mozart, Vittoria, Handel, Vierne, Faure and Rutter, will be interspersed between the scenes. There will be a 100-voice choir, 60 actors and 25 musicians in the orchestra with full costumes and sets. The date for this production is Saturday, October 16 at 7:00 p.m. in Reveille's sanctuary.
You might wonder why a Passion play is being presented in mid-October. It is to raise money for the victims of the devastating Haiti earthquake last spring. Haiti was a poor country before this happened and the people are far from recovering. What a fitting way for a community to come together for a worthy cause - reminding us that the pain and suffering of Christ does have a triumphant ending!
If you would like to help by making a donation, please make your check payable to: Central VA Arts Mission. This will go directly to the Red Cross division involved in Haiti relief. Invite a friend and come to see Were You There? It could be the best thing you do this fall.

Note of Appreciation
Dear Reveille United Methodist Church,
Swansboro Elementary and Communities in Schools would like to thank the wonderful Reveille family for the many endeavors to assist the students at Swansboro Elementary and its community. Swansboro really appreciates the Reveille volunteers who tutor children. The school and wider community both benefit from the community garden. Many thanks for the camp sponsorship of children. The recipients of this endeavor would not have had this experience without your assistance. Additionally, your financial donation was instrumental in allowing us to have the Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon, celebrating our volunteers. Also, the staff greatly appreciated the Reveille 5K. We look forward to the outcome of the venture that will promote health and fitness to this community. The Swansboro family salutes you and cherishes your partnership in helping to make the Swansboro community a better place. Thanks so much for the many acts of kindness.
Sincerely,
Cheryl Johnson

Swansboro Mentoring Opportunity
Steve McNamee will be conducting a brief mentor orientation at Swansboro Elementary School on Thursday, October 7 at 11:30 a.m. This is a great opportunity to explore the possibility of becoming a mentor and to tour the school. One hour per week is all that is asked. That hour provides a child with undivided attention for reading or homework help or simply friendship. Please contact Rhonda Geisel at 358-0470 or 539-8893 if you are interested or would like more information.
