Reveille Days Continue:
Serving God through Outreach
September 26
Loving our neighbors means living like Christ, who came not to be served but to serve. This Sunday, we celebrate our local, national and international missions as well as our support of United Methodist ministries like United Methodist Committee on Relief. We'll learn about opportunities to become involved in Reveille's numerous outreach endeavors and recognize our Outreach Committee and project champions. We'll also learn about a special congregation-wide event coming October 31 when we'll package emergency meals to be distributed through Stop Hunger Now.
Next Sunday, October 3: Reveille Day
10:30 a.m. combined service, followed by lunch on the grounds.
Bring your best homemade dessert to share.

Frisbee Tournament to Benefit Stop Hunger Now
Twelve teams, two fields, five hours of competition - the annual Welborne United Methodist Church Ultimate Frisbee tournament is here once again. This Sunday, September 26, twenty-seven youth from Reveille will compete against teens from Mount Pisgah UMC, Welborne UMC, New Hanover Presbyterian, St. Andrews UMC, and Cambridge Baptist churches, all to raise money for cancer research. Reveille is fielding two high school teams and a middle school team.
Reveille's youth are proud to be part of this day of fun and fundraising. Each participant has paid an entry fee, the majority of which goes towards the fundraising goal. This year, Welborne has designated the funds for Stop Hunger Now, an organization that provides meals for disaster response and for school feeding programs in developing countries. Reveille will package 10,000 meals for Stop Hunger Now on October 31.
All are welcome to come watch the games, which are played on the athletic fields at Collegiate School's Moreland campus, beginning with a brief time of worship at 1:00 p.m.. Please pray for a safe day and a successful event to raise money so that we can provide meals for those who need them.

Retreat for Women and Girls
This Friday and Saturday, September 24-25, twenty-nine women and teens are enjoying a "Spa for the Girlfriend's Soul." This mother-daughter retreat is taking place at Westview-on-the-James. The Reverend Dori Baker, whose first book, Girlfriend Theology, focused on the relationships teen girls share with each other, and Lindsey Williams, a Ph.D. candidate and founder of the "I am Woman" seminar to help girls develop self-esteem, will lead the event. They will empower Reveille's women to communicate more openly as mothers and daughters, and also to break the cycle of social bullying, in which girls subtly shun, ignore or ostracize other girls. They will learn the gifts from God that they are, and how to care for themselves and others as God's daughters. Please pray for the participants and leaders this weekend.

Small Groups for a Growing Faith
Small Groups for a growing faith have been an integral part of the life of growing and fruitful churches since the early 1700s through the ministry of Methodism founders, John and Charles Wesley. Then, as now, small groups center on disciples sharing their faith journeys with a group of Christian friends in mutual encouragement and accountability. Members of small groups for a growing faith develop trust and spiritual honesty as they share and support one another in the faith. Involvement in a small group for a growing faith provides the best avenue for spiritual growth and living out our commitments to love God with our hearts, to know God with our heads, and to serve God with our hands. Their purpose is to lead members to Christian maturity in the context of authentic community. Watch for more details about forming or joining a small group.

Carol Uzzle, Minister for Teaching and Learning, will be facilitating the class, which meets 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sundays. You may register online at www.reveilleumc.org. Alpha is coming!
Alpha is an opportunity to explore the meaning of faith in a relaxed, friendly setting. The course usually meets once a week for about 10 weeks and generally, a day or weekend retreat is built into the schedule. In each session there is often food, laughter and learning in a fun and friendly atmosphere where no question about life or God is seen as too simple or too hostile. If you feel that you have never really understood the basics of the Christian faith, Alpha can help. We have been calling it an "adult confirmation" experience. We plan to launch Alpha soon at Reveille and have groups that can incorporate both church members and those from the wider Richmond community.
We invite you to join us to learn more about small groups for a growing faith and Alpha following worship on Sunday, October 17, at 10:45 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. in the fellowship hall.

Haiti Benefit Concert
Remember the devastating earthquake that rocked the tiny country of Haiti last spring? Just like for the people of New Orleans, it will take a long time for the Haitian people to recover from this. Haiti was a poor country to begin with and this earthquake pretty much wiped them out. But you can still help. Here are two ways: 1) Attend the Haiti benefit production, Were You There, created by Reveille choir member Robert J. Phanord II, on Saturday, October 16 at 7:00 p.m. in our sanctuary and 2) make a monetary donation to help the Haitian victims. Please make your check payable to Central Virginia Arts Mission. All this money goes straight to the Red Cross unit involved with helping the people of Haiti. The Haiti benefit production will involve 100 singers, 60 actors, and 25 instrumentalists, as well as full sets and costumes.
Were You There is a play based on the Passion story of Christ. It includes music by Mozart, Faure, Vierne, Rutter, Handel, and Vittoria, as well as several inspiring spirituals, including one by Robert Phanord. For more information, visit our website, www.reveilleumc.org, or call 359-6041, ext. 123.
