Reveille Days Begin:
Loving, Knowing and Serving God
September 12, 2010: Loving God through Worship and Music
Our love of God grows deeper and is renewed each week in worship through word and music and song. In our worship services this Sunday, we celebrate our adult, youth, and children's choirs and their leaders. We will give thanks for the music ministry of CrossPoint and all who provide leadership for The Point. We will recognize the manifold ways in which worship at Reveille is made rich and beautiful by acolytes, crucifers, lay readers, ushers, and the altar guild, and the special occasion decorating committee. We will recognize our Worship Committee and all whose contributions enhance our worship experience. Also, our children's and youth choirs begin practice this week.

Building Project Update
After last spring's very successful capital campaign and a summer of hard work by the Building Committee, we have revised our plans for phase one of the project to match the available funds and we are ready to move forward. We expect to give the project the "green light" at a Church Conference which will be held on Sunday, September 26, following our 11:00 a.m. worship service.
In the meantime, you will be given several opportunities to review the plans for both the building and the funding. The first opportunity will come on Wednesday, September 15, as the program for Wonderful Wednesday. On Sunday, September 19, there will be presentations following each worship service. The first will be in the chapel following the 8:30 a.m. service. The second two will be in the fellowship hall, following The Point and the 11:00 a.m. service. You also will be receiving information in the mail.
It has been exciting to reach this point in our journey into Reveille's future, but the best is yet to come. We hope everyone will take advantage of these opportunities to learn more of the details of the way forward.
- Jim Noland

Adult Study Opportunities for the Fall
It is September. In the back of your mind are you thinking it is time to go back to school even though you have been out of school for a number of years? God has created us with the desire to grow and to learn.
Listed below are three options that may interest you. Later in the fall additional classes will be offered. Please contact Carol Uzzle at discipleship@reveilleumc.org or 359-6041, ext. 117 for additional information or to register. Child care will be provided.
THE BIBLE FROM SCRATCH: The Old Testament for Beginners
Do you sometimes feel that your knowledge of the Bible is like a patchwork quilt - you know bits and pieces but do not have a good overview of the Bible and its contents? Perhaps you would just like a refresher course and to look at the Bible from a different perspective. Whatever your reason, we invite you to participate in this eight-week study. The class will meet on Sunday evenings, but if there is enough interest an additional class will be offered at another time.
DISCIPLE 1: Becoming Disciples through Bible Study
The Young Adult Sunday school class will be starting the Disciple I Bible study in a few weeks and would like to invite anyone who is interested to join them in Room 207 beginning Sunday, October 10 at 9:30 a.m. Please e-mail Jake Noland at jake.stormy@gmail.com if you would like to reserve a book or if you have any questions about the class.
CHRISTIAN WORLDVIEW UPDATE
Following this summer's successful mini session entitled Christian Worldview, Jim and Jake Noland will offer a follow-up, expanded (seven week) exploration of this concept beginning on Sunday, September 19, at 5:00 p.m.
FROM FEAR TO FREEDOM
This study began last Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m. The 12-week study is designed to help participants strengthen their faith by focusing on the power of forgiveness, prayer and the joy of living in the presence of God. Please contact Carol Uzzle if you would like to join this group.

Children and Worship
For the next 11 weeks, first graders will be participating in Reveille's Children and Worship classes. These classes meet each Sunday morning from 9:30 until noon, and they are designed to help the first graders be able to participate fully in worship. There will be opportunities to go behind the scenes to meet those who lead us in worship. On November 14, a family night is planned for the children and their parents. During the 11:00 service the following Sunday, each participating child will receive a hymnal for his/her use at church and at home.

Spa for the Soul:
A Retreat for Girls, Moms, Daughters and Other-mothers
We live in a noisy world, crowded with demands. What would happen if we stepped away for a day? We will create a space to enjoy ourselves in the company of other girls and women. Girls: You'll get to tell moms some things you wish they knew. Moms: You'll get a chance to listen deeply to daughters. We'll all be reminded that our bodies, minds and souls are good gifts. And we will wonder about what God wants us to dream and to do. When we leave this place, we'll be stronger, braver, and more able to hear God's call. And the noisy world? It will still be there when we get back.
Join the youth of Reveille UMC for a 25-hour retreat, beginning on September 24 at 6:00 p.m.
at Westview-on-the-James in Goochland. Our retreat leaders are The Reverend Dr. Dori Baker, a United Methodist minister, writer, and author of Doing Girlfriend Theology: God-Talk with Young Women, and Lindsey Williams, a graduate student in clinical psychology at Western Michigan University and author of the forthcoming book Ten Things Your Daughter Wished You Knew.
To register, get a check to Dwayne for $30 per person (moms or daughters) by this Sunday, September 12. Please make checks payable to Reveille UMC. For more information, contact Dwayne at dwayne@reveilleumc.org.

Sunday School for Children
This Sunday, September 12, we begin the fall quarter of study in our children's classes. The children will go directly to their classrooms and signs will be posted noting the location of classes. Sunday school meets from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m.
Reveille has developed Milestones for a Growing Faith for children from infancy through fifth grade along with a parent resource packet. Copies of these resources are available around the church. As Sunday school teachers, parents and congregation we work together to help our children grow as disciples.
We ask the following of parents:
- To follow up during the week with conversation related to the FaithPoint (focus) of the previous Sunday. The story papers the children bring home contain helpful conversation starters. In The Window and through e-mail, parents receive information related to each lesson.
- To have your children in Sunday school at 9:30 and to pick them up once the class is over. The closing moments are a time of worship and prayer. We ask parents to respect this important period.
- To accompany your children to and from class. For safety reasons we ask that children be accompanied when in the building.
Next Sunday we will celebrate our teaching and learning ministries during worship as we dedicate those who provide leadership in this ministry area and as third graders receive their own Bibles.
If you have questions related to our Sunday school ministry and if you would like to be included on the monthly e-mail list, please contact Carol Uzzle, Minister for Teaching and Learning, at cuzzle@reveilleumc.org or 359-6041, ext. 117.

Paint brushes, water balloons, and who knows what other mayhem are the plan for youth group kick-off this Sunday, September 12. We will begin with a fried chicken dinner immediately after youth choir at 5:30 p.m., and follow it with outdoor games and activities. Bring some friends, $3 to help with dinner's cost, and come join us! Wear clothes you don't mind getting wet or messy.
Tatiana and Jose continue to need your support; our youth group committed $60/month to provide for them. You can see an update on Jose on the youth bulletin board outside the senior high room. Please bring your donation so we can honor our commitment.
Once again, Reveille's youth will participate in Welborne UMC's annual Ultimate Frisbee tournament to benefit cancer research through Project ASK. The competition is at Collegiate on Sunday, September 26, from approximately 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. We hope to field teams for both the high school and middle school leagues. To register for one of our teams, get a check for $25 (made out to Reveille) and your t-shirt size to Dwayne by September 12.
Parents of teens: Don't forget the mandatory parents meeting on Sunday, September 19 at 12:15 p.m. Please RSVP with Dwayne by September 16 so he can prepare lunch details.

Help Feed the Needy
Hot Meal
The doors open promptly at 12:00 noon and anywhere from 140 to 200 men, women and children stream into the basement room at Greater Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. The smell of roasted chicken fills the air as they line up to be served their lunch by members of Reveille Church. For many this is the one hot meal of their day. Their gratitude is evident as they file along.
Each month we serve the homeless and disadvantaged a nourishing, filling, hot meal through Richmond's Friends of the Homeless. Your help is needed to continue to make this possible. Ten potato casseroles and six people able to give a couple of hours on Thursday, September 23 are needed. Please see the sign-up sheets either near the welcome center or in the fellowship hall. Child care is available, if you let us know ahead of time. For more information, please contact Joanna Tilley at 556-5935 or sandjtilley@comcast.net.
Bag Lunches
Each month, our older elementary children sponsor the preparation of bag lunches for Richmond Friends of the Homeless. Join us to help prepare the lunches at 10:30 a.m. in the fellowship hall on Sunday, September 26.
