Dear ZipFamily,

Happy 4th of July! We hope you have a safe and fun weekend with family and friends while we say "Happy Birthday America!", and a "Happy Birthday" plug to my daughter, who I'm sure will grow up thinking that these big fireworks celebrations are all about her.

As a side note, don't forget this weekend is

Bank of America's Museums on Us weekend!

As we say good-bye to June and the first half of 2011, we have another giveaway for your family!  It's a family 4-pack to see Mister G at The Regent Theatre in
Arlington on Sunday, July 10 at 4:00 p.m.  The performance is a celebration of his new CD "Bugs" - speaking of which, you will also win a signed copy at the show!

Mister G

Mister G is Ben Gundersheimer, a critically acclaimed singer/songwriter/producer who spent 20 years as a Boston based rock frontman and solo artist before transitioning to making family music. The first student to garner a songwriting scholarship to Berklee College of Music, he won 10 ASCAP awards and toured internationally before going back to school to earn a Masters degree in elementary education. He is now based in the Northampton area.

Check out this video of Mister G performing the title song with kids at a school in Guatemala.

On our blog for this holiday weekend, Karly is heading to Sharon for their fireworks celebration - the best South of Boston.  Casey is feeling all Americana as she and her family head to Carlisle's Old Home Day here in MetroWest.  While Tara has visions of an early evening with her young ones who have no interest in blowing out their ears during this year's 4th of July fireworks celebrations.

Happy 4th one and all!

Now, c'mon, let's get going!

MWCary & Casey's Metro West ZipPicks

"So many great things going on for the 4th of July here in the Greater Boston area, but I am going to brag about my (and Cary's) little ol' New England town, Carlisle, MA.  Every year, the Saturday before the 4th, Carlisle celebrates "Old Home Day", probably my kids most favorite day of the year, next to Christmas of course. ..." "Last year, we went with two other families to the Independence Day celebration in Lincoln. I thought it was a lovely evening - the bucolic setting, noshing and talking with the adults while the kids chased each other and dodged picnickers planted in the grass, followed by a thrilling fireworks display. But when I asked my kids if they had fun (and truly, I expected them to say it one was one the best nights of their lives), my daughter said something like, "I never want to do that again. ... If your kids are like mine, and fireworks are not an option, check out these family events" ..."  Read more.

"If you happen to have read the earliest installments of ZipPicks for the South Shore, you would know that I am obsessed with fireworks.  I think it's partly because my birthday is just before the 4th of July or maybe it's because I grew up on a lake that draws people from various towns to see the fireworks show in this area... or maybe it just feels like the official kick-off to the summer. The town of Sharon's fireworks display and concert is the best that there is for the July 4th celebration ..."  Read more.
