The DEMA Dental, Hearing & Vision Insurance Program!

We are proud to announce that after months of negotiations DEMA is finally ready to reveal the details of a National Insurance Plan!  We are starting with Dental, Hearing & Vision to build up a history of coverage with our membership to transition into a larger, full - health insurance plan. It is imperative that we have a good percentage of members elect to participate in this plan in order to move forward and drive our premiums as low as possible.  Together all of our members:  Private Service Professionals, Principals, Service Providers, Placement Agencies, Affiliates, Schools and Educators will be able to participate and leverage the power of an Association to have affordable coverage!

Only paid members in good standing will be able to participate in this program, so any Private Service Professional will not be eligible until they become a paid member after the FREE three month trial membership has expired.  If you are a current Professional member and your trial has or is about to expire please click on the Paypal button of your choice to become a full member and take advantage of the DEMA National Insurance Plan.  If you fall into one of our other membership types, you and your employees will be eligible to participate as well.

Enrollment will begin October 1st and we will have webinars on the specific details of the plans available in the month of October. Open enrollment will last until the end of 2010 with a target date of coverage to start on January 1, 2011.  Premiums will depend on where you live in the country, but range from $30-$55 per month on average depending on which plan you choose.  Please see the attached PDFs for further explanation of the plans available and the rates.  These rates are subject to change slightly.  As always if you have any questions please do not hesitate to email info@domesticmanagers.com or call us directly.  Please click the links below to download the PDFs.

We look forward to bringing more value to your DEMA membership and be sure to look for more great things before the end of 2010!

For the last few months our members have been asking us "How can we get more involved with the DWU?

Last month while in NYC for our monthly chapter meeting DEMA was able to sit down with DWU- Domestic Workers United.  We are working towards building a strong relationship with the DWU to bring more education to our members about the labor laws in the U.S. and how they affect them personally.

For those of you that do not know who the DWU is please visit their website to gain perspective on this Great organization!  Simply put, they are the organization that is behind the recent bill that was passed which protects Domestic Workers in New York.

To donate to the DWU please visit their website as well.

Private Service Professional Spotlight

~ Featuring ~

Bernadette Guyton

Q: How did you get started in the Industry?

A:
In 1983, I started the California Deli and Catering Co., A 55 seat small restaurant, with a unique Lebanese Fusion Menu, healthy, delicious, light and completely new.  Shortly after, people were standing in line at lunch and dinnerBernadette Guyton waiting for a table and before long, it became one of the most popular restaurants in town, well known Customers, like Alex spans, football players, politicians, judges lawyers and well known developers, were regular visitors at my restaurant.

Q:  Do you have any formal training or degrees for Household Management?

A:
I have spent 27 years in the culinary field and I specialized in serving                Domestic estates, villas and catering for private parties.  The years of

experience on the job is where my training started and continued on. I am

pursuing a B.A. Degree in Hospitality.

Q:  What have been some of the more difficult situations that you have run into on the job?

A:  There is one thing I would like to mention, the fact that I stayed in the same field gave me the power of thorough knowledge of the industry and allowed me to have the ultimate respect from my kitchen staff. I do not allow anyone or any incident to make the end of my day difficult and I always leave with a smile on my face.  In short, I lead by example.

Q:   What type of principal or homeowner do you prefer to work for?

A:   I would really appreciate a position in a happy home, a busy place where at the end of the day, I can serve dinner to a family that meet at dinner time and truly enjoy a happy gathering and my cuisine. A family that has lots of parties and guests over where I can plan and cater those events.

Q:   What direction would you like to see the Private Service Industry take in the future?

A:
I am new to this great organization! In the future I would like comment on this question to better express my views and opinion, but I would like to add how happy I am that We have such a great resource, place to network and meet great people in our industry.

Q:   What are your goals for the future?

A:   I am determined to establish and make a name for myself, here in beautiful

Southern California. Also I accumulated 89 units towards my B.A. degree and my

goal is to graduate in 2011.  One more important thing, I have been writing a love

Story, it is a beautiful book, I am definitely determined to publish it.

Q:   What are your interests and hobbies?

A:    I am writing a cook book for vegetarians and  healthy eaters.  Incorporating vegetables such as Swiss chard, Okra, Eggplant, Legumes like Fava, Garbanzo, Lentils, Mediterranean village salads, heartwarming winter and summer soups, hand rolled Wheat flat bread, flat bread pizzas and mouthwatering desserts.

I do enjoy spending time with my dog, he is 2 years old, and I walk him about one to two Miles every day, he usually goes with me where ever I go.   Whether its to the beach, running chores, visiting friends or just riding around. I also cook all his food, he is big, strong, happy and very well behaved.  He loves cats, small dogs, babies, kids, and people of all kind.  He is a 100 pound American staff Terrier, or blue nose pit bull.
