What's New!

What a Fantastic Year!!!

The Domestic Estate Managers Association grew by leaps and bounds this past year!  We celebrated our two year anniversary and membership increased by 600 percent.  Our network of Service Providers went from one state to over ten and expanded into Australia and Canada.  This was only possible with the participation of the body of membership that represents DEMA!

Our members asked and we listened by implementing a webinar program that the very time crunched industry desperately needs.  As the Association expands into  2010 we ask that this year becomes a Call to Action for all of our members!

As DEMA continues to transform into an industry leader, we will never lose our focus of helping all Domestic Staff enjoy better job security.  We ask any interested member that is dedicated to raising industry standards in this great industry of the Domestic World to step forward and ask for the tools that you feel are needed to help push this industry into new heights in 2010!  We need your feedback and suggestions, please feel free to email info@domesticmanagers.com or you can always call 888-313-3362.  We respond to all inquiries!

Look for our New Year issue of the Chronicle with an exciting new announcement for 2010!

Finally, we would like to thank all of our Domestic Staff, Homeowners, Placement Agencies, Schools, Sponsors, Affiliates, Consultants and Service Provider Members for all of your help, support, encouragement and education that you have given the Association this past year.

We will continue to listen, implement and appreciate all that our membership requires.

We wish everyone a very safe and Happy Holiday Season.

Sincerely,
Domestic Estate Managers Association

Domestic Staff Spotlight
~ Featuring ~

Graciela Lachmayer

Q:     How did you get started in the Industry?

A:
I kind of fell into it by chance.  One summer while cleaning houses on Nantucket Island, I told the secretary that I had just gotten married over the  Gracielaweekend.  When the principals heard that my new husband was a Gourmet Chef they immediately offered us positions in their homes.

Q:      Do you have any formal training or degrees for domestic management?

A:
I call it "Apprenticeship training" having worked in private homes and yacht as well as 5 star resorts for many years.

Q:      What have been some of the more difficult situations that you have run into on the job?

A:
Working in Beirut, Lebanon was quite interesting and by far the most difficult.  It was a great experience and also very challenging.

Q:      What type of principal or homeowner do you prefer to work for?

A:     Ones that are polite to their staff

Q:     What direction would you like to see the domestic industry go in for the future?

A:    I am thrilled with DEMA and all the help it provides.  I think it will definitely help the domestic industry.  No longer will one have to pull out the yellow pages in hopes of finding a good drycleaner or repairman.  One call to DEMA will do it all!

Q:     What are your goals for the future?

A:       I hope to have a fabulous job working as a House Manager/PA.

Q:     What are your interests and hobbies?

A:
I love to travel - the more exotic the better!  And exercise/keeping healthy - always important!
