Research Corner
| | Chiropractic Care More Effective for Treating Common Work-Related Low-Back Pain
The study "Health Maintenance Care in Work-Related Low Back Pain and Its Association with Disability Recurrence," which was published in the April 2011 issue Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, found chiropractic care to be more effective for common, work-related, low-back pain when compared to treatment by a physical therapist or physician.
More details: 894 workers' compensation cases studied; preventive health care recommended by chiropractic doctors was associated with lower disability recurrences; and chiropractic patients had lower medical expenses and shorter initial periods of disability.

Green Tip of the Month
| | Chemical Free General House Cleaner "For most household cleaning, use a simple mix of vinegar and water to remove dirt and germs. You can use this mixture to clean windows, floors, and counter tops. Add a sprinkle of baking soda for scouring power to clean toilets, sinks, and bathtubs."
(From The Everything Green Baby Book by Jenn Savedge)

Dr. Kris suggests a 50/50 mixture of vinegar and water for most jobs. You can buy a 5-liter jug of vinegar and a few spray bottles for about $5. Clean green and save some "green" in the process!

Enzymes
| | The Missing Link Food is fuel for living. It contains essential nutrients such as carbohydrates, fats, protein, vitamins, and minerals to keep our bodies healthy and strong. Enzymes are a natural part of vegetables, fruits, grains, and other raw food. They do the "work" in the body whereas vitamins and minerals, also known as coenzymes, are the building blocks.
When food is cooked, it loses its naturally occurring enzymes. When food is processed, the enzymes are removed. When you regularly eat enzyme deficient food, your body undergoes immense stress attempting to properly digest and absorb the nutrients without the help of those natural workers.
Enzymes are not just responsible for healthy digestion, they are also responsible for assisting the fighting, defending and healing functions of the body's immune system.
Your body doesn't always have an obvious "check engine" light. It does, however, give subtle cues when your system is not functioning optimally. Below are just an example of the signs/symptoms of an enzyme deficient diet: - Stiff, sore joints
- Headache
- Heartburn
- Gas pain - Bloating
- Constipation - Diarrhea
- Anxiety - Irritability
- Restlessness - Insomnia
- Depression
