1. Don't mow grass while it is brown -- it will stress the plant out and make it more difficult to absorb moisture.

2. Grass normally turns brown in its dormancy period during drought.

3. Water the grass in short bursts so the ground can absorb more moisture like a sponge.

4. Pick grass seeds that tolerate longer periods of drought.

5. Water early in the morning, between 6 and 7. Watering in the afternoon can magnify the sun's rays and burn the grass.
