"Green building" comes of age: from the '70s to today
This recent article in the Christian Science Monitor examines the steady upswing of green building during the past few years, despite a slowed economy. Is a greener, more eco-friendly way to build here to stay? In short, yes - the foundations for green building are stronger now than they were during the first wave of eco-awareness in the 1970's. There is also a plethora of new technologies and products today that make green building viable and affordable. NY Times: Home building rising, albeit slowly
The New York Times reported yesterday that nationwide home construction has increased 8.9 percent over October's rate.  Building permits also increased 6 percent, but analysts were quick to point out the slowly increasing rate may be due to the first-time home buyer tax credit that was recently extended until April. According to the article, the slow pace is "encouraging because it would allow vacant homes already on the market to be sold." Read more here.
