What exactly is "green building," anyway?

The term "green building" is often thrown around in the home construction business without any clear definition of what constitutes an energy-efficient building. The HGTV Web site has a very useful guide to green building, including video explanations, term clarifications, and a guide to green home remodeling.

Pending home sales increase for sixth month in a row nationwide

Builder magazine reports pending home sales have increased, but noted that "the recovery is broad-based across many parts of the country."

"The market for existing homes continued to surge in July, pushing the National Association of Realtors' pending home sales index up 3.2% compared to the previous month to a reading of 97.6.

On an annual basis, that represents a 12% jump for the forward-looking indicator, which is based on the number of sales contracts signed in the month to purchase an existing home."
