Open Green Map logo  Map Global. Celebrate Local!
  Friday, June 5 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
at Rawlings Conservatory in Druid Hll Park

Baltimore Green Map is celebrating our first year's accomplishments AND the launch of Open Green Map worldwide.  There are many events planned in Green Mapped cities. We'll share info, linked by a slideshow and Twitter into a global community fest.

The Friends of Druid Hill Park are our co-hosts for this event which will include map displays and interactive demonstrations, music, light refreshments and, of course, opportunities to add sites to Baltimore's Green Map. (We thank Dogwood, Gertrude's, Golden West, Whole Foods, Zia's Cafe,  Clipper City and Woodhall Winery for their contributions to the festivities.)

 BGM Website Garners International Attention

Since January 1, 2009 we have had over 5000 unique visitors to Baltimore Green Map (BGM) website, viewing over 23,000 pages, a 100% increase over the past five months.  Our web stats show we are clearly attracting an international audience.
  • As of late May our monthly traffic is topping 2300 visits and several new links should greatly increase that.
  • With more than 300 resources mapped, Baltimore Region Open Green Map has the most sites of any of the 60+ Open Green Maps worldwide. Thus far 40 people have nominated sites for this interactive map.
  • Baltimore has been used as a model internationally for Green Map System's demonstrations of Open Green Map during the past year.

Towson U Green Map Collaborations Expand BGM Audience

  • We worked with Professor Jessica Ring's Graphic Design Studio at Towson all spring.  The students' process and wonderful resulting maps are viewable online.
  • Students from Towson University's Computer Science Department user tested the website and made recommendations to improve navigation.
Promoting Green Mapmaking as an effective tool for raising awareness about sustainability initiatives, we are in discussion with several other campuses in the Baltimore Collegetown Network.  We are also strategizing for neighborhood-based and youth map projects in the next year.

Please contact us if you are interested in partnering on a project.

EcoFest09 Presentations Invited in Many Venues
  • MediaActive Conference panel discussion at Towson University
  • Maryland Association of Environmental and Outdoor Education Annual Conference workshop
  • Stewards of Place; Service Learning & Civic Engagement Conference workshop for Maryland colleges and universities
  • Roland Park Environmental Lecture series featured speaker
We had many great conservations at our booth at Baltimore EcoFestival. Thanks for this opportunity provided by Baltimore Green Works!
