Glossary

TRAINING HOURS
Hours: one hour equals 60 minutes. Time allocated for meals or for breaks longer than 10 minutes, do not count as program hours.
Contact hour: a contact hour is a classroom hour in the physical presence of a faculty member:
-    Assigned outside study with an assessment process, includes reading, audio/video, internet, class discussion, class presentation, test. It is expected that these outside resources will be thoughtfully chosen to support the teacher training process and be directly relevant to the subject of yoga. Such hours can be counted for all subject categories except Practicum.
-    Written assignments to be handed in, such hours can be counted for all subject categories except Practicum.
-    Group activities include: directed discussion, techniques practice, teaching practice. Such hours can be counted for all subject categories.

TECHNIQUES TRAINING/PRACTICE includes asanas, pranayama, kriyas, meditation and other traditional yoga techniques. These hours are a mix between analytical training on how to teach and practice techniques.

MEDITATION with the technique of "anapana", observing the breath entering and leaving the nostrils, the development of tranquility and the preparation for the deeper meditation of VIPASSANA, the development of knowledge.

ASANAS is a strong practice of different postures, standing poses, backbends, forward bends, twist and balancing poses.

PRANAYAMA "THE ART AND SCIENCE OF BREATHING": "We come into this world on a great inspiration and we will leave it on a great exhalation. According to the Rishis or seers of old India, each one of us comes into this world with only a certain amount of breaths. If we are fast and shallow breathers our life will be such, fast and shallow. If we learn to breath deep long and gentle this to can be our life. By expending and deepening our life breath, we will have a more vital and healthy life. We can discover much about ourselves and the world around us through the breath"

ANATOMY will always be taught in relation to your asana practice. It is important in different asanas to know which muscles have to relax and which muscles have to work in order to create a total movement in our practice. Knowledge of anatomy will give you a greater insight into the different postures and more understanding about the alignment to work towards effortless effort".

PRACTICUM includes practice teaching, receiving feedback, observing others teaching and hearing and giving feedback. Also includes assisting students while someone else is teaching.

TEACHING METHODOLOGY includes principles of demonstration, observation, assisting/correcting, qualities of a teacher, the students process of learning and business aspects of teaching yoga.
