We Are No Longer Silent: A Heart-To-Heart Conversation on ASDs and Sexual Abuse

FREE WEBINAR

Date: Tuesday, September 4, 2012
Time: 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM EDT

This presentation will focus on a topic that is often left out of the mainstream dialogue on autism and disability rights. We will address the current existing research, the unique obstacles that autistic individuals face in regards to sexual abuse, and recommend actions which need to be taken to confront issues regarding sexual abuse, sexual assault and sexual violence residing within the autism and disability community.

Trigger warning: This presentation will include discussion and content (written and spoken) on the topics of sexual abuse, sexual assault and sexual violence.

Lindsey Nebeker is a pianist/composer, international speaker, and disability rights advocate. She was diagnosed with autism at age 2 and began to speak at age 4. Lindsey also has a brother who is on the spectrum and is in a long-term romantic relationship with a partner on the spectrum. She is especially drawn to topics relating to autism and sexuality and (when the time allows) writes on the topic at her blog, Naked Brain Ink. Lindsey has appeared in Glamour, ABC's Good Morning America, and National Public Radio.

The BIG Picture - Your Master File

Reviewing the Master File

A Master Plan for Success

Your child's special education is a long-term project. You need a master plan because Planning is the Key to Success.

As a parent, your role is similar to that of a project manager - you organize, plan, monitor progress, anticipate problems, and keep the team focused.

Conduct disorder

Conduct disorder, one of the so-called "disruptive behavior disorders," is a severe condition characterized by emotionally and sometimes physically violent behavior and a disregard for others. Children with CD exhibit cruelty, from early pushing, hitting and biting to, later, more than normal teasing and bullying, hurting animals, picking fights, theft, vandalism, and arson. Since childhood and adolescent conduct disorder often develops into the adult antisocial personality disorder, it should be addressed with treatment as early as possible; happily, the earlier treatment starts, the better the outlook..
