DC Exhibit To Feature Artists With Disabilities

Artwork created by students with and without disabilities from across the country will be featured in an exhibit in the nation's capital this summer.

The display at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Library in Washington will include works by 102 students - two from each state and the District of Columbia - selected from over 3,000 submissions.

The annual exhibit features the work of students with and without disabilities side-by-side in an effort to promote inclusion. This year's theme is "What Inspires Me."

The contest and showing are organized by VSA, an affiliate of the Kennedy Center that focuses on increasing opportunities in the arts for people with disabilities.

The exhibit will be open to the public August 1-26.

Students from pre-kindergarten to post-secondary classes can catch a wave this summer.

An academic wave, that is.

Miami-Dade County Public Schools is expanding its summer offerings, largely through technology and web-based courses.

So, even though Thursday marks the last day of the official school year, there's still time to learn.

Local UCF student starts camp for special needs

When it comes to summer vacation, Winter Springs' Kelly Riordan is more excited about working than spending a day at the beach. As her peers relax and unwind from the spring semester stresses, Riordan will be busy running her own summer camp for autistic children.

"I love the kids, and I love the camp," Riordan said. "I don't know if I can imagine my summer without it. It's all I could want."
