The Women's Desk
I've spent many hours back in the office in Nashville, viewing photos, reading through manuscripts of presentations, listening to worship videos, typing minutes of World Convention and Global Women Connecting meetings. One thing is overwhelmingly clear - we are a family practicing unity!
Only two in the office can slow the sharing of our experiences in Brazil. So I invite you to visit the World Convention and Global Women Connecting Facebook pages often to view and comment on the photos posted both on walls and in albums - and to share your pictures and memories with the rest of the global family. Or, if you'd rather, send them directly to us (preferably by email) and we will add them for you.
The next months will be a time of unfolding the days of our time together - and taking steps into the future that God is so graciously showing us every day!

- Lyndsay Jacobs
Reflecting on directions for unity and mission in the 21st century, Lyndsay helps readers to understand that Christian unity is a central (and not optional) dimension to both their Christian faith and the mission of the church. GLOBAL GATHERING
IN
BRAZIL
-Gary Holloway
Almost 4000 Christians from around the world met in Goiania, Brazil for fellowship, worship, preaching, and learning in the 18th Global Gathering of the World Convention, July 25-28, 2012.

Plenary speakers from Brazil, the United States, Australia, Ghana, and Portugal, gave challenging lessons focused on the theme of "Sharing the Love That Unites." Heart-felt praise to God in song was led by Ken Young with singers and musicians from the United States and Brazil. Teachers from eight countries led workshops on the Bible, Christian history, and worldwide ministries.
This was the first Gathering to be held in the Global South, after previous meetings in the United States, England, Australia, Canada, Scotland, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Jamaica, and New Zealand. The Gathering was ably led by World Convention President B.J. Mpofu from Zimbabwe and organized by Vice President Victor Hugo Queiroz from Brazil. In the words of Victor Hugo, "The churches in Brazil will never be the same."
Plans are underway for the next Global Gathering in Seoul, Korea in 2016.

YOUR GIFT GIVES MORE ~Gary Holloway
You have or should soon receive a letter from World Convention, asking for a gift to our ongoing ministry of connecting everywhere, everyday. Thanks to the generosity of two donors, all gifts from individuals through the end of 2012 will be matched.
So if you have made your gift this year, we ask for another generous gift. And if you have not given this year, please prayerfully consider doing so. Your gifts make it possible to continue this important ministry.
Why support World Convention?
- Because (despite the name), World Convention is not an event but an everyday ministry.
- Because we are the only structure that provides an identity for our movement globally. World Convention is not an event but an everyday ministry that connects our churches worldwide. Without World Convention, many of our churches would only focus on their local congregation. Others might have regional, state, or national structures. But we are the only organization whose purpose is to build up fellowship, understanding, and common purpose within the Christian-Churches of Christ-Disciples of Christ global family. No doubt God's church will continue without that global understanding, but how much more can we work with Him to bring in the kingdom if we have that global identity.
- Because World Convention is also the only ministry that gives all of our churches, including Churches of Christ and Christian Churches, a seat at the table with other Christian groups. It is so important to have that seat. There we can learn from our brothers and sisters. There we can voice the insights God has given our churches. There we can facilitate work together in the name of Jesus. A seat at the table. That's what World Convention provides.
- Because of the specific fruit that God provides through World Convention. Fruit like our Global Gathering every four years for fellowship, encouragement, and partnership in ministry. Like the opening of the church in Bom Retiro in 2011, planted by churches in Brazil and Korea connected through World Convention. Like the many stories of connections for ministry through World Convention.
So I'm asking you to send a gift to the address below or go on our website (worldconvention.org) and click the donate button. Your prayers and gift will mean a lot.
