BEING A BLESSING IN GOIANIA                                                                                 ~Gary Holloway

Many of you will be with us in Goiania, Brazil, July 25-29, to experience great blessings from God. Others of you are not able to attend, but my prayer is that you will be blessed through the stories of praise, fellowship, understanding, and joy that come from Goiania.

For those who are attending, you should anticipate overwhelming joy and hospitality from our Brazilian brothers and sisters. You should anticipate uplifting and profound worship of God, ably led by Ken Young and with the participation of talented musicians from across the globe. You should anticipate times of loud vocal prayer and times of silent prayer and meditation. You should anticipate powerful lessons from Scripture and informative classes by a variety of teachers.

You should also anticipate some challenges. Those of us who come long distances will arrive tired and perhaps irritable. We will be sleeping in strange beds and eating unfamiliar food. The weather will be hot. We will face the challenges of an unfamiliar language.

You should also anticipate that there will be many things you cannot anticipate!

In all this, God will work in powerful ways. But let me remind you of what you already know. God blesses us to be blessings to others. In Goiania, we will have the opportunity to show the love of Christ to everyone we encounter-hotel staff, restaurant staff, airport staff, cab drivers, workers at the Convention Center, and (of course) all our brothers and sisters from Brazil and around the world. I want to encourage you, no matter what challenges you may face, to not miss the opportunity to show Jesus to all around you.

Goiania will be a blessing so we may in turn bless others.

And for those of you who cannot attend, please be with us in Spirit and in prayer. And remember that each day, wherever we are, we are to bless others in the name of Jesus.

SITE CHANGE FOR GOIANIA

After I wrote the above about anticipating that there will be things we cannot anticipate, I learned that we were unable to book the Convention Center for the Gathering. But we have a better venue. The Global Gathering will be held at the Igreja Videira (Vineyard Church) Bueno, Av. T7 c/ Av. T-3, St. Bueno - Goiânia - GO. This is a recently remodeled church with two large auditoriums, classrooms, and meal spaces. It is less than three miles from the Convention Center. Free transportation will be provided between the Convention hotels and the church.

From the pictures alongside this article, you will see that this is a much better space for worship than the Convention Center.

Our schedule remains the same as at the Convention Center location, with one exception. Because we cannot use the church on Sunday, our closing worship will be on Saturday night. This gives us the opportunity to visit local churches on Sunday.

I anticipate great experiences of worship, fellowship, and learning at this new site.

There is still time for you to make your plans to come. Here is what to do:

A STEP-BY STEP GUIDE FOR ATTENDING THE GOIANIA GATHERING

It is time to finalize your plans to attend our Gathering in Goiania. There you will experience the blessings of worship, learning, fellowship, and service together.

STEP ONE: Register for the Gathering on our website http://www.worldconvention.org/registration/

After you pay your registration fee, you will receive an invitation letter needed for your Brazilian visa (see Step Four below).

STEP TWO: Book your flights. You may want to look at international websites to compare fares:  http://www.expedia.com/or http://www.orbitz.com/ among others.

STEP THREE: Book your hotel. Look on the website of the Brazilian travel agency for the Gathering http://www.quatroestacoes.tur.br/103665-destino-world-convention-2012 for the list of hotels. Choose your hotel. Note that prices are in Brazilian Reals, so use this site to convert to your national currency http://www.x-rates.com/calculator.html After choosing your hotel, email Quatro Estacoes (Four Seasons Travel) at anneparanhos@quatroestacoes.tur.br and they will confirm the hotel with your credit card. Note that all the hotels on the list include breakfast daily and airport transfers.

STEP FOUR: Apply for your Brazilian visa (you should already have a Passport). First look on the chart here http://www.brazilconsulatechicago.org/en-2-10-102.html to see if Brazil requires a visa for people from your country. If so, locate the Brazilian Consulate nearest you. Use this site http://www.worldembassyinformation.com/embassy-of-brazil/usa.html and enter Brazil, then your country at the pull down menus at the top of the page.  Many will need to apply in person; others can apply by mail. Contact your local Consulate to find out what you need to do.

As an example, I applied by mail following instructions from the Brazilian Consulate in Atlanta online, http://www.portalconsular.mre.gov.br/mundo/america-do-norte/estados-unidos-da-america/atlanta/servicos/visa/tourism My fee was $160. I received my passport with visa back in the mail in four days. Yours might take longer.

STEP FIVE: Look at the program on our website: http://www.worldconvention.org/events/global-gathering/ Click on the left side for classes, plenary speakers, and schedule. Anticipate the blessing God will provide as we meet with brothers and sisters throughout the world.

STEP SIX: Pray for traveling mercies, leaders and speakers on the program, the church in Brazil, the church in your own country, the church throughout the world, and the world God loved enough to send his Son to bless.

IF YOU CANNOT COME TO GOINIA, START AT STEP SIX. Do continue to pray for the ministry of World Convention.

Global Women Connecting endeavors to unite, inform and connect Stone Campbell women from around the world.  One way this is accomplished is through this regular article in ChristiaNet.  But, we are aware that many of our sisters (and brothers) remain "out of the loop" if their primary method of receiving information is through postal service rather than through electronic means.

A modified ChristiaNet is available as a .pdf file that can be made available to you as an attachment to an email from our office.

You may know of someone - or a small group - who would like to have our monthly news.  Perhaps you are willing to print it for them from your computer, extending our ability to communicate and stretching our funds.  Of course, we will be happy to mail this version if the need exists.

We're hoping you will be able to help us keep our family connections active either by notifying us of someone who would like to stay in touch with the World Convention/Global Women Connecting ministry or by the personal touch you can give in your area.
