Sharing the Love That Unites May God, the source of patience and encouragement, enable you to have the same point of view among yourselves by following the example of Christ Jesus, so that all of you together may praise with one voice the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 15:5-6 |
A Seat at the Table ~Gary Holloway
Christian Churches Together in the USA is an organization that has created a new national space for the most inclusive gathering of Christian churches and organizations in the United States. Almost fifty churches and organizations are part of CCT-Orthodox, Catholic, Evangelical, Pentecostal, Protestant and (yes) just Christian. CCT promotes building relationships, getting to know one another, praying and worshipping together. In January, I was blessed to be a part of the annual CCT gathering in Birmingham, Alabama, thanks to the gracious invitation of World Convention board member Dick Hamm, Executive Director of CCT. There we worshipped and prayed together. We shared the experience of the Civil Rights Museum. We sought together what God is calling us to be and to do. It was a marvelous experience. World Convention is the only ministry that gives all of our churches, including Churches of Christ and Christian Churches, a seat at the table with other Christian groups. It is so important to have that seat. There we can learn from our brothers and sisters. There we can voice the insights God has given our churches. There we can facilitate work together in the name of Jesus. God's work of reconciliation is so important that he wants all his people to join that work. For a long time, many of us have tried to do that work alone. Jesus prayed that those who believe in him might be one, so that the world might believe in him and know God's love. A seat at the table. That's what World Convention provides.

The Women's Desk Global Women Connecting ~ Julia Keith
WORLD CONVENTION WEBSITE UPDATED
I'm afraid that Global Women Connecting has taken a back seat to other World Convention projects this month. As a friend of mine once said, I had to put down a few of the plates that were spinning above my head in order to keep them from crashing and breaking into tiny bits! But I am hugely excited about the work I have been involved in, and the renewed potential in keeping our communications active and current! The World Convention-NEWSITE is now operational! You'll find it at our old address www.worldconvention.org
Our thanks go to our technical advisor/volunteer, Ed Dodds for taking us from a format that required a fair amount of training to update, to one that I was able to learn in a few hours. And I thank Ed personally for his patience and perseverance. Ed's willingness to share his expertise in the ever-changing world of technology has been invaluable.
What's new? You really must visit www.worldconvention.org to get a complete picture of the information we've gathered, and to generate your own ideas for the ways you can connect to others through the ministry of World Convention. We want to know how usable the site is to you - email me at julia@worldconvention.org with your input.

Week of Prayer for Christian Unity
"One in the apostles' teaching, fellowship, breaking of bread and prayer" (cf. Acts 2:42) is the 2011 theme for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity (January 18-25). Begun in 1908, these days have been set aside each year so that Christians the world over may share the prayer of Jesus: "that all may be one... that the world may believe" (John 17:21). Note the dates and plan to participate in the following special observance: Service of Prayer for Christian Unity Vine Street Christian Church 4101 Harding Road · Nashville, Tennessee 37205 Tuesday, January 18, 2011, 7 PM

EES and TCMII Merger Announced
Dr. Bruce Shields, the President of the EES (European Evangelistic Society) and Dr. Tony Twist, the President of the TCMII (Training Christians for Ministry International Institute) have signed a merger agreement, ratified by both boards, in which the EES will become a wholly owned subsidiary of TCMII. For nearly 60 years the EES, founded by Earl and OttieMearl Stuckenbruck, has been a witness to the Christian gospel at Tubingen University in Germany. Through the Institute for the Study of Christian Origins, the EES has also sponsored, in conjunction with the Protestant faculty, a doctoral colloquium in which international doctoral students have the opportunity for research supervision at a major European University. For over 50 years TCMI, founded by Gene and Lenora Dulin, has ministered to believers throughout Eastern Europe and Russia. The TCMII, established in 1991 after the collapse of the USSR, now enrolls over 800 students from 28 countries providing leadership development and supervision from the Certificate to the doctoral level. The result of the merger is the joining of two missions with one vision to develop leaders throughout Europe and Central Asia to more effectively influence their churches, cultures and countries for Christ. Both Presidents have expressed the desires of their boards in this way: "Our prayer is that by joining forces we shall prove to be better stewards of resources and more effective workers for God's kingdom across the continent of Europe and beyond."

Gordon Stirling Remembered
December 20, 2010, Gordon Stirling, a dear elder statesman within our movement went on to meet his Lord. He was 95. He was in good health until two weeks before his death when he had a number of seizures that left him without speech and recognition of loved ones. It is a sad day in the history of our movement in Australia and New Zealand. Gordon was looked up to as a man of deep faith and a progressive thinker. He was Editor of the Australian Christian for many years, Vice Principal of College of the Bible, wrote a number of books and papers (many of which are held in the archives at the Historical Society in Nashville, Tennessee, USA) and expressed the DNA of our movement in a fresh new way. Gordon was a great supporter of World Convention and attended most quadrennial conventions up until Brisbane in 2000. He received a Citation for his work at Calgary in 1996 which was accepted by his daughter. We give thanks to God for the lifetime of such a wonderful, gracious man.

Mission Opportunity in Brazil - 2012
~ Phil McAfee As missionaries for the Christian Churches-Churches of Christ I would like to extend an opportunity for those coming to the World Convention (Global Gathering) in 2012. Both before and after the convention we are able to receive a group of 5-20 to work with the TALITA CUMI DAY CARE CENTER. (Talita Cumi are the Aramaic words Jesus spoke to the child that was dead and mean "rise up little child". This has become the theme for the Day Care - to help these little children and their families rise out of needs. This group would be involved in a VBS and could also get involved in reform or building while with us. To help with the housing and meals we would ask that each person give a donation of 100 US dollars. From the Day Care to the World Convention we will have further information closer to the date. Anyone interested should get in touch with us at philkmcafee@hotmail.com or you can write to us at the following address: Philip McAfee; C.P. 2001; Sobradinho, D.F. Brazil, S.A. 73.062-001
