National Convocation

Convocation BannerGod blessed me in so many ways at the National Convocation in Oklahoma City. The experience was so wonderful, I am overwhelmed and unable to adequately articulate its full meaning. Here are impressions I take with me.

Hospitality
. I was welcomed with open arms and loving faces by all at the Convocation. In no way did I feel a stranger. What we had in common was the most important thing - our relationship to God.

A timely theme. In every session we were challenged by the theme of the Convocation, "Saved to Serve, Live all Out."

Powerful preaching. Prophetic words from God were spoken that challenged, moved, and transformed me and all who heard.

Authentic worship. The words of songs were driven deep in my soul. "I am a friend of God. He calls me friend." "Encourage yourself in the Lord." "Here I am to worship." Prayers invoked the presence and blessing of God. Most importantly, we were reminded that we worship with all that we are, including our bodies, and that worship is lived out in service.

A special moment. The most moving experience to me was the Meditational poetry of Sheila Spencer. In an experience I cannot adequately describe, she reminded us of that deep reality, that we are the body of Christ, made not of mortar and stone, but of "breath, heart, flesh, and bone."

That reality is also at the heart of our ministry of World Convention.  Whatever our race, nationality, or language, we are the body of Christ.

God has a variety of ways to help us understand divine love.  Here are a few that appeared in my email...

Have you ever felt the desire to do something special for someone you love?

That's God who is speaking to you.

Have you ever felt the sadness and loneliness of someone who approaches and stands beside you?
That's God who has chosen you.

Have you ever thought of someone who is very dear to you and have not seen or heard from in a long time and suddenly that person appears or you get an unexpected message?
That's God, for there is nothing that happens by chance!

Have you ever received something marvelous for which you did not ask?
That's God who knows all the secrets that you keep well hidden in your heart.

Have you ever found yourself in a difficult situation for which there seemed no apparent solution, and then the answer became clear?
That's God who unceasingly takes our problems and helps us solve them.

Have you ever felt an immense sadness in your soul, and then suddenly, as if your inner self was suddenly infused with love, an inexplicable sense of peace enveloped your entire being?
That's God who consoles you and gives you peace.

Have you ever felt tired of life to the point of giving up, and then suddenly you were able to find the courage and resolve to continue your journey full of vigor and hope?
That's God, always there beside you, lovingly accompanying you every step of the way on your life's journey.

It is in recognizing God at work in our lives that we understand our connection to each other.  It is in the expression of God's love we become one.
