Prayer Requests
Pray for Haiti

TThe World Council of Churches, together with the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity have designated this week the annual Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. World Convention  echoes Jesus'
prayer for Christian Unity that we might all be one as found in John 17.

This year the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity also called upon Christians to remember their pioneers in the cause of Christian Unity. World Convention lifts up the names of Thomas Campbell and World Convention's founder, Dr. Jesse Bader and his wife, Golda, who was his constant partner in ministry.

World Convention offers prayers of Thanksgiving for the Council on Christian Unity of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) which observes their 100th anniversary in 2010. Dr.Robert Welsh, President, serves on the Board of World Convention and is a faithful friend to this ministry.

World Convention gives thanks to God for those individuals and churches that remembered this ministry in your end-of-the year giving. Your finacial support and prayer partnership are the life blood of this ministry.

Earthquake in Haiti
On January 13, 2010 at 4:22 PM Eastern Standard time a terrible earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 on the Richter scale, hit Haiti. The epicenter was located at Carrefour, a suburb just out of the city of Port-au-Prince. In seconds the damage could be estimated to more than ten billion dollars. A preliminary count summarily estimates 200,000 deaths. The number continues to grow. On January 22nd a second earthquake, this one measuring 6.1 on the scale, send shock waves throughout the island nation already reeling from the earlier disaster in one of the poorest places on Earth.

Christian Churches and Churches of Christ, the Churches of Christ and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) all have a presence in Haiti. In addition many other mission organizations within our family are responding with emergency disaster aid, in addition to many global and interdenominational relief agencies and ministries, and international governments. We encourage all within the Stone-Campbell Movement family to avail themselves of some opportunity to help in whatever way they can.

Thought
Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. - Matthew 5:3-9
