Prayer Requests

Please remember to pray for the day to day ministry of
World Convention.

In recent weeks we have received reports from our ministry partner in Pakistan that on July 2nd 117 Christian families in Bahimni Wala village, Asur, were attacked by fanantics. Electicity was cut, houses were burned and destroyed, valuables confiscated, property stolen or damaged and women were beaten while others had acid thrown on them. Please pray for these Christians who bear witness to Jesus Christ despite persecution.

We rejoice with International Christian College, Manila, Philippines on the report of 10 new students baptized into Christ!

Pray for the families of seven Church of Christ teens in Bolivia. A bus carrying the teens rolled down and embankment and threw passengers 100 yards. Three were killed, four were seriously injured.

Pray for the New Zealand Christian Churches Conference, Move '09, to be held August 20-22 with a Pastor's Refresher to be held as a pre-event. To register go to www.ccnz.org

Central India Christian Mission seeks your prayers for nearly 750 children in extreme poverty in the tribal area of Bilaspur.

Pray for World Convention Office Coordinator Julia Keith and her family, as her husband, Joe, is facing heart health challenges.

Join the World Convention Board in prayer as they begin the process of seeking a permanent Executive Director. Pray for discernment, wisdom and that God leads the right person to the position.

Periodically friends and supporters of World Convention share with us their prayer requests and praises. Though unspoken, join with us in lifting up the needs and rejoicing in the praises!

Great Communion News

During the General Assembly of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Indianapolis, Indiana, July 29-August 2, there will be at least three Great Communion related events. On August 1, Doug Foster and Newell Williams will present a workshop: Celebrating our 200th Anniversary as a Movement for Christian Unity.

That evening the Disciples of Christ Historical Society and the Council on Christian Unity will jointly host a dinner at the Hyatt Regency Hotel,  in which Dr. Michael Kinnamon will share on the theme: Celebrating Our History as a People of Unity. Tickets are $26.00

At 2 pm on Sunday August 2nd the closing service of the General Assembly will include a special celebration of Great Communion. This event, which will include participants from all three streams of the Movement, promises to be one of the largest of the Great Communion events to date. The service will feature a number of special music pieces and a memorable service of the Lord's Supper. www.disciples.org

Habitat for Humanity Build to Celebrate Great Communion! In Oklahoma City the three streams of the Movement are coming together in a unique way to celebrate our heritage of Christian Unity in a Unity Build. From September 26 to October 17 organizers are calling together brothers and sisters in Christ to lay down their diferences and pick up their hammers as a visible expression of Unity. Donations are being sought to fund the house project. For more information and how you might become involved contact Tom Russell, project coordinator, at [email protected] What a fantastic idea! God Bless!

Global Women Connecting News
Earlier this month more than 100 church leaders attended a Standard Publishing sponsored luncheon in Louisville, Kentucky, before the opening session of the North American Christian Convention. Highlights included the testimonies of Claudia Mitchell and Kim Goad, authors of the new One Girl series of resources available from Standard this September. The book, journal, and leader's guide help churches help young girls discover how God can use them to make a difference in their worlds. www.standardpub.com
